London - Airbnb or Ivy Lettings? Just starting my search

I've never booked an apartment in London and I was wondering if you could give me some feedback about Airbnb and Ivy Lettings.

Also, I'm clueless regarding which locations would be best for a grandma and 19 year old. We don't need a lot of space, but would like to be close to the tube and also to groceries.

As I have been reading through some of the posts, I see that Nottinghill and Kensington are recommended. Have you had positive experiences in any other ares?

I would also appreciate knowing about any specific apartments that you have rented and have been happy with.

Thanks so much – I feel a little overwhelmed right now!

I have been pleased with AirBnB and VRBO. Have not used Ivy Lettings.

Here is a topic about Ivy Lettings on the Trip Advisor Forum:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g186338-i17-k6100756-Is_Ivy_Lettings_a_legitimate_company_to_rent_from-London_England.html

Maybe you can judge from that whether to rent from Ivy Lettings or not.

About the neighborhoods; Notting Hill and Kensington are good neighborhoods. Also look in Belgravia, Bloomsbury, South Kensington.

I just found several apartments within a minute or two from the Earls Court station. Do you think this would be a good area? Thx!

We are staying at Vancouver Studios in Bayswater near Notting Hill. We have booked a two bedroom apartment, VS It has good reviews on Trip Advisor and is recommended in the RS tour book.

There are many shopping arcades thruout London with fast food and sitdown restaurants. We usually just bought food at the local grocers. We stayed in Bayswater and found it had very convenient bus routes which we preferred to going underground. It is also close to Paddington Station for days out trips. Kensington and High Kensington underground can be confusing since they are 2 different stops with many levels.

Well, I am in the process of booking something through Airbnb and I hope it is as nice as it appears to be. It's in the Earls Court area, which seems to be a good place to get to from the airport and also a handy place for a base.

Janet, Earl's Court is a good area, not posh, but convenient to see the sights in London. If you want to post the link to the specific listing, I'm sure some of our London members would be glad to give an opinion about the exact location of the apartment.

I can't figure out how to link but it's titled "Stunning London 1 bedroom..." on Airbnb.

Go to the top of the page, to the web address. Where it says www.airbnb/stunning-london-1-bedroom or something like that. Put your cursor over that, left click, that will highlight the link. Then right click, a box will come up that says "cut, copy, paste". Choose "copy", click that, then carry that over to when you make a new post here on this thread. Put your cursor in place here, right click, it will bring up a box, click "paste", and your link will appear in your post.

Janet, on your ipad press your finger on what you want, there will be a little cloud that will pop up, it will say copy tap that then tap your finger where you want to put it, when "paste" pops up tap it. I hope this makes sense to you.

Yes, I booked it! It seems perfect and in a decent location. I searched on Google and it's in a typical white row house.

Looks fabulous and as I love and use Airbnb to secure my accommodations around the globe I congratulate you on your choice. Since you've already Googled it do it again to survey the surrounding neighborhood to find the closest market, ATM, and tube stop. Have a great trip!

My husband and I, both early 30's, are staying here for our upcoming trip in August: http://londondreamhouse.com/Antoinette.html We found this apartment on HomeAway. We've had nothing but pleasant interactions throughout the booking process. The area also seems quite centrally located and is close to grocery stores, tube stations, sites, and the Borough Market.
