Any suggestions for inexpensive lodging very close to Kings Cross Station for 2 nights in late July? Our group - 2 grandparents, 2 parents and 2 teens- is traveling from York. The teens have never been to England. I have reserved (with refundable deposit) at the Travelodge, Kings Cross Royal Scot, but the reviews seem pretty dismal. We're thinking of staying near Kings Cross so we can drop our luggage and then take the tube where we need to go. We'll be spending most of our time sightseeing, not in the hotel, so it doesn't need to be fancy. Any ideas? Thanks!
Travelodge is a basic budget chain. One caveat is that Travelodge will not store your luggage before check in so if you arrive before check in time, you will have to store your bags elsewhere.
Premier Inn is a reasonably priced chain. You might check them.
How old are the teens? Many hotel chains count teens 16 and older as adults.
Take a look at the Jesmond Dene on Argyle St. Just 2 short blocks from Kings Cross Station.
I have stayed there several times and it is like a small B&B excellent English Breakfasts, and walking distance to lots of places like the British Museum, etc.
You can check it out on Tripadvisor and see photos of rooms etc.
I also recommend Jesmond Dene where my daughter and I stayed in December. Book on the hotel website and you get free breakfast, it is a made to order Full English breakfast.
It's only a block from Kings Cross but very quiet.
Thanks for all these replies! I have looked at the Jesmond Dene. It does look very nice and would work well for our family. One teen is 13 and his brother will have just turned 18. I know they are both considered adults as far as pricing so have usually been getting them rooms with 2 singles, but I noticed that Jesmond Dene has a quad which would work just fine. I assume that the "book button" on their website will mean we qualify for the breakfast. I have booked some places before realizing it had led directly to Booking.com. Thanks again!
