Lodging Location Question

Headed to London end of May. Considering staying near West Brompton station or Wandsworth Town station. Want to travel to Chelsea Flower Show, Kew Gardens, Hampton Court Palace and Wisley Gardens. Looking for assistance on best place for transportation to places listed. Many thanks!

The London Underground will get you around. Your second choice a bit farther out.

Grab a copy of the Rick Steves London Guidebook. Loads of pertinent and helpful intel.

The various neighborhoods, how to use the tube, restaurants, shopping, galleries, museums.

Kew gardens is massive.

Hampton Court Palace is a good 1/2 day visit.

Wisley Gardens will be a long day out.

Have you researched The Barbican Conservatory roof top gardens?

For Wisley you would need a mainline train from London Waterloo to Woking, which calls at Wimbledon (see below)

From there the Royal Historical Society run an hourly shuttle bus for £2 each way or a taxi will cost you around £14.

I would choose West Brompton as it's a tube station, rather than a main line station like Wandsworth Town where.

From there to go to Hampton Court or Woking you can go south to Wimbledon on the tube, rather than going into Waterloo, then pick up the main line train there.

Four stops to Sloane Square for Chelsea, nine stops with a change of platform at Earl's Court for Kew.

Wandsworth Town is a very nice residential area but it’s only on the train to Waterloo, not the Tube. The Tube gives much more flexibility so I’d go for West Brompton. If you want a more ‘local’ experience then Wandsworth Town would get you that.

Go with West Brompton. It will give you easier public transportation access to everywhere you want to go.

Depending on were you are located, you might even be better off taking the few minutes walk to the Warwick Avenue entrance to Earls Court Station. (Unless you use the station a great deal, as I do, if you just look at the map you wont know there is an entrance on Warwick Ave.)

One bit of warning....there are numerous District line trains going to different places. Make sure the District line you need is going where you want to go. The front of the train will tell you as well as the arrivals board near each track at each station. Earls Court is the main transfer point.

I would stay near the West Brompton station. On my last visit to London I stayed at an AirBNB near West Brompton and it was a great tube station to get me around. We were walking distance to pubs and restaurants as well which was nice.
