I'm looking for a hotel or B&B for my family of 3 (two adults and one teenager) for 3 nights in July near the city center--perhaps around Regents Park or Hyde Park, but anywhere convenient to the typical sights and transportation. Looking for someplace unique with character, not a chain hotel, for less than 200 GBP, ideally with a good breakfast. Does anyone have any solid suggestions? Thank you!
Why don't you look at the London House Hotel in the Bayswater section of London? My wife stayed there 2 months ago, and she had a very positive experience.
When we are in London, we try to stay in that neighborhood just north of Hyde Park--and with 2 underground stations close by. It's also a short walk to Kensington Palace.
The trick will be finding a triple room. Two places that are recommended here and in the RS guidebook are the Lime Tree Hotel and the Cherry Court Hotel. Both have triple rooms. The Lime Tree online booking shows rooms available for July, but higher than your price point. The Cherry Court cannot be booked online; you call or email them to book. You could contact them for price and availability.
I'd also suggest the area north of Hyde Park between Paddington Station, Bayswater and Lancaster Gate. Lots of moderately priced, independent hotels situated in Victorian era buildings. I've personally stayed both at the Westpoint Hotel on Sussex Gardens and The Hilton London Hyde Park and could recommend both (although the Hilton might be above the 200£ range for a triple).

Rhodes Hotel it’s a Victorian townhouse, you can get a triple for three nights for £534.00. Both Lancaster Gate and Paddington Tube stations are a five minute walk from the hotel.
Falcon Hotel, on a Norfolk Square has a triple room, three nights would be around £440.00. The Falcon is also close to both tube stations mentioned above.
The London Elizabeth Hotel has triple rooms, not sure of the price.
Thank you for all of the great suggestions!
Good Day :-)
My wife & I have had remarkable good experiences staying in places available on Monestaries.co. In Rome, London & Paris. As an example, In Paris, we stayed in one of the world's most beautiful cathedrals (Sacre' Couer). In the evening, when the doors are closed to the throngs of tourists, the Sisters and Fathers give personal private tours. The location is the highest point in Paris and abuts Montmarte. The locations can be diverse - but the facilities are generally well run.
In London, we stayed in a place called the Penn Club. It was started so many years ago by the Quakers. It was located on Russell square with a bus stop just across the street. The neighborhood includes one of the oldest pubs in London. The facility was spotless - everything about the place is sparkling clean. The full breakfast is delightful. You will share a full bath with other guests - also spotless. We loved it - and - it was 1/2 the price of a hotel. You may wish to see if there is something close to your desired location.

Calvin, thanks for the Penn Club info. Cost savings vs Westminster location is something to consider when I start planning my 2021 trip.
