Lodging in England Lake District

Any recommendations for hotels in Windermere, Ambleside, or Grasmere in early June? Will have 5 people in party with car.

I know Rick favors the northern part of the Lake District, but I really like the southern area, with it's small villages. I've stayed in the Langdale in the past. We'd like to experience the quaintness in the south.

Since you are driving, look for a Country or Farm House. We stayed in the Low Crag area. I bet there are several B&Bs that could accommodate your party. They served Dinner and Drinks. It's been a while since we have been there; but I assume there are a few still available.

It would be useful to respondents to give some idea of your budget.

I too wonder about a farm stay, or even a Holiday Cottage.

If you stayed in Langdale before (presumably Chapel Stile, rather than the ODG at the head of the valley) my first thought would be to look for somewhere in the Hawkshead or Coniston area. Or even in the adjacent Little Langdale Valley.

Can’t help with lodging since we stayed in Keswick, but if you go to Grasmere you might want to give Sarah Nelson’s gingerbread at the The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop a try. It’s nothing like the gingerbread in the U.S. Likewise, if you get the Cartmel stop in at the Cartmel Village Shop, home of sticky toffee pudding. We tried some at Cartmel Square B&B.

I know it sounds a shade too rustic for Rick Steves but some of the bigger camping barns have log burners ,full kitchens etc and you can book for sole use.

We still don't have a budget which makes ideas very hard to give you, but a few ideas which are out of the tourist melee but are well located for easy access to the central Lake District would be-
The Watermill at Ings, The Eagle and Child at Staveley and The Brown Horse at Winster
