Lodging for Wimbledon?

Hi, hoping to go to Wimbledon in 2025 … I’ve entered the lottery but if don’t get ticket that way, may do the early-morning queue.
Would prefer not to stay in London proper, but rather a small suburb/town convenient to Wimbledon via public transit.
Any recommendations? (I’ll likely be traveling solo … what is a reasonable budget for clean but basic lodging?)

A dependable chain for clean and relatively basic accommodation is Premier Inn (PI).

If all you are looking for is a bed and somewhere convenient then Croydon could suit you. Croydon will never win prizes for charm, but it does win on being super convenient for London 24 hours a day, and for having a wide range of eating and shopping options.

For the first 6 nights the PI in Central Croydon is on at the moment for £596 pay now, or £719 cancellable, or £692/£815 for an upgraded Premier Plus Room.

A step below PI is Travelodge- still en suite and totally adequate. They have central Croydon on at the moment for the same 6 nights at £506 pay now or £624 cancellable.

At both breakfast is an extra £10 or so extra a day, all you can eat buffet.

Take the tram direct from Croydon to Wimbledon.

I think those prices are not at all bad for somewhere as close to Wimbledon

PI also have a property in Wimbledon as well but that is full.

Travelodge also has a property in Wimbledon- on for £250 a night currently during the tournament.

Croydon even has a direct citybus from Heathrow every 10 minutes. But Gatwick would be the better airport- a short frequent train ride to East Croydon.

Went to the Womens Final in 2023. Was staying at the Richmond Premier Inn. Hour bus ride. One change. Very easy.

There are closer PI’s than Richmond’s.

Dropped off about a block and a half from the entrance to Wimbledon. Lovely walk with others going to the match.

Wimbledon Museum and the gift shop are great.

My big recommendation is book as early as possible because that’s the kind of event where the prices will probably only go up

as long as you book a refundable rate if the price goes down, you can rebook but supply generally exceeds demand for events like that.

Thank you all — very useful feedback! I’ll check out the suggestions. I think I should hear by November if I got a ticket through the ballot, so hope to book something then.

There's also a good Premier Inn in Wandsworth which would be convenient - I would think prices will rise for Wimbledon fortnight.
