My husband and I are planning to spend 5 days in Denmark Hill and Loughborough. Does anyone have recommendations for lodging or restaurants? Thanks in advance!
For clarity, can you confirm whether you mean the area around Denmark Hill in London and the nearby Loughborough JUNCTION station… or if you’re spending a few days in Denmark Hill and then travelling to the large town of Loughborough near Leicester?
I could give you information for Loughborough in Leicestershire but after checking the map of London and some consideration I noticed that there is a station called Loughborough JUNCTION near Denmark Hill so I wonder if you mean that?
Loughborough (the town) is an unusual tourist destination although it’s a pleasant place.
Denmark Hill in London. I will be spending time at King's College London. Thanks!
Okay, that’s what I suspected. “Loughborough” in the title is a bit misleading as it’s an entirely separate place so I’m glad I checked before I started recommending the best pubs and curry houses in Loughborough. Shame - I was going to suggest a visit to Loughborough’s Carillon Tower… I was looking forward to putting my Leicestershire knowledge to good use.
I’m afraid I can’t help with Denmark Hill or that part of London at all. Hopefully someone else can.
good catch, Golden Girl - I was just about to mention the steam railway and the space centre. To say nothing of John Taylor of Loughborough, the world's best bellfounders who put on a very good tour and pour exceedingly sweet bells...
oh well
I need a bit of help with the neighborhoods. We want to stay central to public transportation to see the sights, and within a 30-minute ride on public transportation to King's College Denmark Hill.
Denice,
Being within 30 minutes should be easy. Are you aware of this webpage? https://www.kcl.ac.uk/visit/denmark-hill-campus It will be very helpful. If you look at the building lists you can probably work out exactly how far it will be to walk or bus to Denmark Hill or into central London from where you need to be. It is quite a large campus so it isn't one answer fits all.
Denmark Hill into Victoria is only 12 minutes, for example.... Blackfriars would get you into The City - the square mile financial centre, etc.
you might be happy at the Premier Inns - a couple at Waterloo, I think there is one at the Elephant. There are other chains all over the south bank.... what sort of level of amenities are you hoping for? Price point?
There are restaurants all over - London is awash with them. Lets find where you will sleep and then we can suggest....
Premier Inns are lovey and within our budget. Victoria looks like a nice centrally located neighborhood. Are you familiar with guest houses or Airbnbs in Victoria? Thanks again for your helpful suggestions.
Are you familiar with guest houses or Airbnbs in Victoria?
sorry, no. As a just an hour away local I don't usually stay in London.
others will.
There have been loads of posts on this Forum about hotels and B&Bs (not airbnb) in the Victoria area, or you might scroll back a few pages, or create a new post about Victoria. There will likely be more response than Denmark Hill and Loughborough Junction.
This thread only caught my eye because I saw both Denmark Hill - which I know through through my railway working years - and Loughborough which I am local to and also know well as well as having worked trains through. I've ridden through Loughborough Jct several times but most tourists here won't know either station.
Loughborough caught my eye, too! a place of pilgrimage for bellringers :-)
