LNER scaps return ticketing

Effective from today 11/6/23 LNER has removed return ticketing from most of their network, effectively becoming a point to point train operator. This should result in goodly savings and more options from their previous ticketing arrangement.

There are some pluses and minuses. Examples of the latter are that there is a disguised price rise for many journeys of a few percent, and that you no longer have a month to use the return leg with unlimited stopovers.

For most long routes the two trips have been effectively independent for years - aside from removing the loophole where people were getting ripped off by buying two singles when a return option was the same price of a single, I am not sure I'll personally see much difference.

I do like their comment "you need one single ticket for each leg of your journey" - for a forthcoming Edinburgh to London return I actually have five tickets due to split ticket savings.
