LNER have withdrawn Off Peak and Super Off Peak fares from certain of their flows, officially from 7 September.
This leaves only Anytime and Advance Fares on journeys like London to York.
However this is actually quietly starting a week early from the end of this month.
To Edinburgh is better as there are the better value but still capacity controlled Flex70 fares.
So if arriving by air with its uncertainty this is in effect a huge fare rise.
So London to York flexible any train fare is now £229.70 for two people with two together railcard. You may strike lucky and get last minute Advance Fares.
Due to the stopping patterns there is very limited opportunity for split ticketing.
On the handful a day Grand Central services to Sunderland the Anytime fare is a lot lower, £157.70 in the above example.
Lumo do not stop at York.
This may prompt more use of Britrail passes, or flying into Newcastle, Leeds or Manchester.
I was alerted to this overnight by a forum PM.
