LNER- all trains cancelled Peterborough to Grantham

Following damage to the overhead electric wires between Peterborough and Grantham yesterday evening the line will be totally closed all day Sunday between Peterborough and Grantham, with no through trains from London to the North.

This will also affect Lumo, Grand Central and Hull Trains services. Grand Central (only) may be able to divert via Lincoln, as they have diesel trains and, apparently, drivers with the correct route knowledge.

Please use other routes- Avanti from Euston (for Newcastle via Carlisle and Scotland, and York & Newcastle via Manchester using Trans Pennine Express) and East Midlands from St Pancras (for Leeds, York, Newcastle via Leeds or Sheffield and other intermediate stations on Cross Country and Trans Pennine).

Expect other operators to be very busy.

Hull Trains are running from Hull to Doncaster only and Lumo from Edinburgh to Newcastle only.

Please check before travel on Monday.

The line will remain closed until end of service tonight. A handful of LNER trains are now diverting via Lincoln, adding around 90 minutes to journey times.

Assuming that services restart tomorrow morning they will be very busy as Saturday evening and Sunday passengers will also be travelling.

I have a reserved seat Kings Cross to Edinburgh tomorrow morning, so presumably that means I’m still going?
People from today’s cancellations just squeeze in and maybe have to stand for their whole trip?
The app shows my reservation.

well sometimes when the trains are very busy, reservations are lifted, which means you no longer have a reserved seat and everyone can sit anywhere or just stand.

could be worse - think of travelling 300 miles and getting beat 4- 1 and then finding that the trains are cancelled 😢

At this time no-one knows if you are going, neither me, or LNER or Network Rail. Everyone hopes you are.

By 6am it will be known what is happening, should be sooner.

The line was meant to re-open at 4pm, then at 6pm- neither happened. Stock and train crew are out of place. So are likely to be short notice changes, even if the line re-opens.

Your seat reservation may or may not mean anything. They may cancel reservations and/or declassify 1st class tomorrow. If they are running then just keep checking the app for your individual train, and hope for the best.

This has been a major incident caused by the succession of bad weather- like the one at Acton and the one at Manchester Piccadilly on Saturday night .

If no service is running your ticket will be valid on the 0840, 1016, 1216, and each 2 hours Euston to Edinburgh Avanti services, under cross industry agreements. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Good news- the line has just partly re-opened. The first trains have now got through the affected section, southbound. As I write nothing has yet moved northbound.

LNER are not yet admitting this, probably to avoid crowds descending on KC who they couldn't possibly accommodate on the few remaining trains tonight. With services running up to 3 hours late train crews will be needing rest.

Thanks so much for keeping me (us) informed.
I’ll wake up early and check the app news .
Good news is that the hotel I’m in now looks to have available rooms tomorrow night in case I’m going nowhere.

Well services are certainly running this morning, and to time. As expected there are quite a few cancellations, mainly on the Leeds and Lincoln services.
To Edinburgh the 0800 is confirmed as cancelled. Unless they are going to switch trains round the 1030, 1300 and 1500 are looking as if they will be cancelled. Looking means that the inbound (southbound) trips which are scheduled to form those services are cancelled but the corresponding northbound trips are currently shown as running.
So that either means changes of train set, that the trains are out of position and already in London, or that they just haven't got round to cancelling them yet.
But a lot better than might have been expected, unless you are going to Leeds.
Time will tell if other cancellations happen during the day, but that is the current schedule.
The set for the 0800 for instance started it's day at 0440 from York- which train was terminated short at Doncaster.

Hi.
I've just looked again and it says my 11:30 to Edinburgh is leaving on time.🤞

So far the 1130 is running, that train is the turn back of the 0547 from Edinburgh due Kings Cross on Platform 4 at 1036. Currently that is on time and just approaching Doncaster, a 9 car Azuma. So, so far, all is looking good.
If you get there any earlier the 1030 to Edinburgh will also have left from Platform 4.

I'm on the train I booked and nearly at Edinburgh.
Weirdly, there were seats unused even though the indicators were showing they were reserved.
Thank you so much again for all the great help you have given, it is very much appreciated!🤩

Glad to have been of service.
Bottom line, it is what we are here for.
I have had the train on live track all day. People book seats on more than one train, or are no shows for many reasons. Or, like me, rarely sit in their booked seats. On Avanti West Coast I almost always find a different seat, especially on the 11 car pendolinos- where I just head for the 'spare' car letter U.
Next week I go to Edinburgh for the day from England. Of the 3 services that day I have seats booked on I don't expect to be in any of them- as the system did not give me the seat types asked for. All should be quiet trains so I will find the seats that suit me.

I am surprised your trains were not packed out.

Hopefully no Scottish rodents tonight.
