Liverpool: So much to see, too little time. Advice?

My husband and I will only be in Liverpool for one night in late May, driving from York, and hope to arrive in Liverpool by 11 am. The next day we will leave for the Lake District in the late afternoon. We cannot extend our time in Liverpool, as we have a reservation in Keswick on the 28th.

I'm a huge Beatles fan and want to see all the Beatles sights, go inside John and Paul's homes, go to the Casbah Coffee Club, and see various museums. It's too much to try to pack into two days. I'm thinking of booking the Fab Four Taxi Tour to be the most efficient (the one which includes entrance to the homes, to streamline things). That will take care of everything but the following:

Casbah Coffee Club
Beatles Story Museum
Liverpool Magical Beatles Museum
British Music Museum
Merseyside Dock Museum

Each one of these has the same opening times ( 10 am-5pm);only the Beatles Story is open a bit later until 6:30pm. I know that we can't possibly fit it all in, allowing 2 hours to spend at each museum. But I'm not sure what to eliminate. Any advice?

Hi, Travel Mom. We too (husband and I) are big Beatles fans but we had the luxury of almost 3 days in Liverpool -- and managed to see many of the items on your list. But the one that "stayed with me" the most was visiting the actual childhood homes of Paul and John (Aunt Mimi's - Mendips). The guides in the home were very good and the experience was so emotional for me. It was like their spirit or soul was still there. I would also add the Cavern Club as a place where I felt a special energy. We found the Beatles Story Museum quite excellent -- very well done and had a lot of touching moments scattered about.

Also, the Hard Days Night Hotel was beyond stunning. Felt like we were in a museum rather than a hotel. An amazing collection of photos and Beatles artwork. Even if you can't stay there you could certainly run in and check it out for a half hour or so. It is around the corner from the Cavern Club. Of course we had to stop at Strawberry Fields for a photo and made a quick zip to Penny Lane. Knowing all the lyrics and seeing the actual places kind of blew our minds -- truly magical. Enjoy your trip!

Hello! I’ve been to Liverpool 7 times and am visiting again in two weeks.

There is absolutely no way you can fit all of that in one day.

The Fab Four taxi doesn’t include entrance to the homes, it is only available with the National Trust Tour. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/beatles-childhood-homes

A busy day might include the Beatles Story museum on the docks, then the Magical Mystery tour which ends at the Cavern. You’ll be near the new Liverpool Beatles Museum and then you can use your free Cavern admission that you got from the Magical Mystery Tour.

Just a note that the Hard Day's Night Hotel has an "Any Time At All" menu (at least they did when we were there 7 years ago). So if you're hungry and it's not lunch time or dinner hour, you can get any of a nice selection of light meals there.

Fab Four Taxi tours have actually now done a deal with NT for entry to Mendips and Forthlin Rd

We’ve teamed up with the history experts at The National Trust to bring you a tour experience of the lifetime!

“Explore the interiors of both Mendips, John Lennon’s childhood home, and Forthlin Road, Paul McCartney’s childhood home. Walk in the footsteps of legends and explore how John and Paul grew up here, practiced their music and wrote some of the first songs made famous by the Beatles.

The National Trust childhood homes tour is the only one which takes you inside these unique and atmospheric buildings and we are the only taxi tour company able to offer you the full story!

Not only will you explore John and Paul’s childhood home…”

We did a cruise that stopped for one day at Liverpool port. The excursions offered by the ship and private ones for Liverpool were mostly Beatles stuff. While we like their music, we aren't much into celebrity worship. We did find a wonderful private tour that took us into North Wales. It was fantastic, we visited Conwy and its historic castle and did a tour of the beautiful Welsh countryside.

And there is so much more to Liverpool than just the Beatles.
