Liverpool or Heathrow airports

There will be two of us traveling to London fall 2025. I had thought we would fly into Heathrow and at sometime train to York /Thirsk area for several days to take a tour and then return to London. Would it be better to either fly into or out of Liverpools airport, and do the other side out of Heathrow? Or would it be less stress to do both ends out of London? Less stress is the key. Any other suggestions?
Thank you for your help

Would Manchester Airport give more choices than Liverpool? It’s also closer to York.

Manchester has a number of direct flights to North America, Liverpool has none. You should also be able to get a one stop flight from many more airports, such as Dublin, Amsterdam or Paris. As Camborne says MAN is also nearer to York and has direct trains from the airport.

You could also think about Newcastle Airport. It too has connections from Dublin and other European airports.
The Tyne and Wear metro takes you to Newcastle Central for trains to York and Thirsk.

If you're planning to visit London, then see York and the Thirsk area, it would make sense to look for a flight out of Manchester rather than returning to London.

I did that several years ago, and it's more convenient getting to the Manchester airport than to Heathrow, plus it's not as crowded. There are several good hotels near the Manchester Piccadilly station which is a short train ride from the airport.

Manchester has a good tram system plus the regular buses, and there are a number of things to do there if you want to stay for a few days. Search the threads for a discussion of things to do in Manchester.

Liverpool is certainly worth a visit, but I've found better flights out of Manchester.

All the best,

A big thank you to you all for your suggestions. I thought an in or out flight on the York end would cut travel time. Since I have no knowledge of the area it sounded promising but didn’t know if something I was overlooking. Sounds like trains or buses going to York and back are durable and hopefully easy .
