Liverpool hotels?

Hi! We will be heading to Liverpool in July for a week to attend The Open. Having followed the London threads, I have heard good things about the Premier Inn chain. We currently have reservations at The Resident Liverpool, but I am considering switching to one of the Premier Inns as they are a bit more reasonable. We value clean, quiet accommodations, but they do not need to be fancy. Proximity to either Liverpool Central or Liverpool Lime Street are critical. All of the hotels seem to meet the location requirements so I wanted to see if anyone on here had recommendations from personal experience.

Also, if you have any suggestions on “not to be missed” sites in Liverpool, please be sure to share!

Thanks in advance.

I have stayed at the Resident Liverpool. It has a good central location and isn't usually that expensive. But for the Open, I'm guessing prices are sky high.

Clean, great service, convenient. I will stay there again on a return to Liverpool.

As for the Premier Inns, while I have never stayed in one in Liverpool, I have stayed in many and never had a bad stay. Always clean, always quiet, always comfortable.

The PI Liverpool City Centre (Lime Street) could hardly be closer to Lime Street station-go out of the side entrance by the high numbered platforms (not the front entrance with all the steps) and it's there over the road.
I was very happy with it- perfect 'Premier Inn'. Super quiet when I was there, very helpful staff, quick service, standard PI all you can eat breakfast, Tesco grocery store round the corner, very handy for the city.
I was lucky and got it for under £30 a night when I was last there. I doubt you'll get that lucky.
So I was a very happy bunny. At twice the price I'd have been equally happy.
Liverpool City Centre (Liverpool One) PI is just down the street from Central Station, but I've not stayed there.
You pretty much know what you are getting at any PI.
Many people, including me, really love the PI beds. I always get a very good sleep there.

PS- have you thought about staying over on the Wirral, rather than commuting across from Liverpool?

You must go to the Albert Dock and wander around the iconic Pierhead while in the City. The free Museums at Albert Dock are very good at telling the history of the City.

I liked the Slavery Museum (on the docks) and the Western Approaches HQ. The latter was a WWII command center and has now been turned into a museum somewhat similar to the Churchill War Rooms in London, but without the Churchill Museum component.

Thank you all so much! It sounds like both are good options, but with the cost savings Premier Inn might be the way to go. Sincerely appreciate your quick responses.

Yes, we did consider trying to stay closer, but all of the hotels appear to be full (not a surprise). We have tickets for most of the week, but will have a free day during the week plus we are arriving by train from London (there for 5 days first) so staying in Liverpool seemed the best option.

Thank for the site recommendations! I will add them to my list.

The Aachen Hotel had been recommended by an acquaintance and is among those listed in RS books. Any comments from this forum?

If you have any interest in the Beatles, stop in at the Hard Day's Night Hotel for a light meal from their "Any Time At All" menu. It's around the corner from the Cavern Club (reconstructed; serves drinks only, no food).

There is, of course, also the Beatles Experience museum at the Albert Dock, but that takes more time and may be chiefly enjoyed by serious fans who followed the band from the early 60s into their rise to fame.

If you plan to see all the interesting tourist sites in Liverpool you’re going to find it difficult to fit the golf in.
Off the top of my head, the Maritime and Slavery museums, Tate Liverpool, Walker Art Gallery, two very different Cathedrals, the Philharmonic Hall and the Philharmonic pub almost opposite (and in particular the gents toilets!), the Three Graces at Pier Head, the Ferry Across the Mersey (yes, you get the song as part of the ride), Another Place at Crosby, Speke Hall and the trip to the childhood homes of Lennon & MaCartney. Then there’s the park at Birkenhead which was used as the model for Central Park in New York and the Lever Art Gallery at Port Sunlight, both on the Wirral. Liverpool has more listed buildings than anywhere in the UK outside London.

Thank you so much for all of the recommendations! Golf is the primary reason for the visit so that is our focus. I always take the approach that we will return at some point! I appreciate the suggestions and will definitely check them out.
