Lincoln castle and cathedral

I will be in London for 10 days next April and I am looking for day trips out of London. I have been to London and the UK many times so have seen places such as Oxford, Windsor, Cambridge, York. I am thinking about some other options and was considering Lincoln. Bath, which I haven't seen in 30 years, is another option. Does anyone have a view on Lincoln or have another suggestion? I would like to be within 2 hours by train of London since I am looking at day trips.

At a stretch there's also Durham. It's about 3hrs one-way, but is a fairly small city and very historic so easily doable in a day. The Cathedral is a World Heritage Site and I believe has various displays on atm. Well worth visiting, though it's your call if you want to suffer the longer day.

I enjoyed the cathedral and town for a short day, though I wasn't coming from London. Trains take 2 - 2.5 hours each way and all seem to require one connection (at varying locations). Beware the Steep Street. You can take a bus uphill to the Cathedral Quarter and then walk downhill later: https://www.visitlincoln.com/travel-tools/lincoln-by-bus/

Lincoln is great. You will need to change trains though - generally at Newark, I think.

The cathedral is STUNNING and the castle, right opposite, gives great views of the cathedral.

Plus there's Steep Hill, the street full of medieval and Tudor houses, that leads down from the cathedral to the city centre.

It's fairly quiet and off the tourist trail - an undiscovered gem.

you need to change at Newark - but you buy it as a through journey. Bought 12 weeks in advance it could be £15 each way, bought on the day it will be about £75 round trip.

Thanks to the speed of the trains you can go direct to Chester in 2hours and LIverpool is only slightly over.
