Hi, my husband, myself and our 23 year old daughter will be in London in March. I've decided the Lime Tree is the best hotel for us and would like advice from anyone who stayed in one of the 2 triple rooms they have. Our choice is the triple on the 2nd Floor with 3 twin beds or the triple on the 1st floor with a double and single. We are in great shape and travel light so walking up stairs is no problem. My one concern is what you look out upon from the window. I noticed some guest photos show some rooms looking onto HVAC equiptment. Also which room is bigger? We have traveled to Europe quite a bit and realize rooms are smaller. I'm leaning toward the 3 twin beds as we are all fairly tall and I believe would be more comfortable. I'd appreciate any and all feedback!
Thanks,
Heather
Maybe you could contact the hotel with your questions.
Yes, I would contact the hotel. I like to contact hotels as a matter of course. It gives me a good feel for the place. I tend to ask for directions, time for breakfast, specific travel hints, etc. In terms of twin beds, it may not sound very romantic (and sometimes I wonder what hotels think), but I always request twins. My husband is tall and you never know how the bed will be. It seems easier to adapt to whatever the bed is without concern for a bedmate.
We stayed in the triple with the double and single. It was a nice sized room with nearly floor to ceiling windows overlooking Ebury Street. The bathtub/shower was interesting to climb into and out of due to the high side of the tube. There is one wardrobe for hanging clothes and a few drawers I believe. There is also a desk and a side chair. It was a lovely room and the Lime Tree staff and breakfast are wonderful. Enjoy!
Three of us stayed in the room with the 3 singles and it worked out well for us, the bathroom is small (like all bathrooms in europe) other wise it was fine. The breakfast at the Lime Tree is excellent!!!! You will be within easy walking distance of Victoria Station for the tube.
Well, I've not stayed in the 3-person room but I've stayed in rooms looking out the front and the back. Basically you are either looking onto Ebury Street or you are looking out the back to the garden. There are buildings around the back side plus the Victoria Coach arrivals station. I've not had a view of HVAC but I've had a view of the arch-thing on the top floor a couple of times.
Here's a google satellite view. The first building on the corner is the old Ebury wine bar (closed and not sure what it's going to be.) The next 2 buildings are The Lime Tree. The arch thing is on the edge of the building, so the building past it is not Lime tree. The white roofed buildings with the gray skylights is the Coach Arrivals station. You can see the very nice garden out back. There are tables and chairs so you can sit out there and have a quick meal or some wine!
Thank you everyone for replying to my post. Very helpful. Don, did the room with the 3 beds overlook the garden?
Thanks,
Heather
Hi to everyone, In 2013 I was a part of RS Best of London tour, we stayed at the Lime Tree Hotel. I stayed in a single room, top floor room that looked out over the back garden. Next to the only window was that "arch thing." Didn't know what it was so I asked the desk staff. His reply was that arch was a piece of the flying buttress for the Lime Tree Hotel building. Went back to my room, leaned out the window and took a picture of it. I know, very touristy.
Hahaha Catherine! I've got a similar shot - was lazing in bed one morning with the window open and there was a cool jet contrail behind it so yes, have that shot as well. I almost called it a flying buttress but I wasn't sure it really was. That's good to know.
