LHR: Yet another arrival question

Hey kids!

Which one of you lovely travel Big Brains wants to clear up my confusion about Heathrow arrival protocols?

Scenario: I'm flying Delta from SEA to LHR. If this flight is successful, I will deplane at Terminal 3. From there, I need to trot my butt over to Terminal 2 to enjoy the wonder that is flying Lufthansa business class to Munich (and hopefully avail myself of loungy goodness beforehand).

Question: between arrival and departure, what exactly do I need to do? I'm not leaving the airport, so do I need to go through customs? My understanding is that I go through the e-gate, but is that it? I'm assuming there's some level of security I need to go through to get on the Munich-bound flight.

Details: the SEA->LHR flight and LHR->MUN flight are on different tickets. I'll be carrying my luggage, but would checking it make any difference?

The ever-helpful Frank II answered a similiar question back in April: "If this is two separate tickets, you will go through passport control, collect your luggage, walk through customs, take the Heathrow Express train (follow the signs) to Terminal 5, check in, go through security and find your gate."

Does this answer apply to me?

Note that Munich is airport code MUC.

If you are carrying your luggage AND you have your boarding pass for the LHR - MUC, then you will stay airside. Follow the flight connections signs to terminal 2. There will be a security check, but no customs or immigration.

If you check luggage, you will have to go through passport control, collect your luggage, walk to T2 landside, check in/drop off bags in T2, go through security.

Laura is correct.

Yes. Don't check your luggage and your life will be easier. You can then follow the "flight connection" signs, stay airside and be bussed over to T2. No immigration or customs but you will go through security.

You must have your Lufthansa boarding pass for this.

Plug in you flight information at this website for step by step instructions:

If for some reason, they make you go through immigration and customs, it's not a big deal. When you exit customs at terminal 3, just follow the signs to terminal 2. It's a 5 minute walk underground. There are even moving walkways. (I've done this walk a few times and as recent as three weeks ago.)

I dread to ask this, but if I don't?

As soon you land at LHR, turn on your phone and down load the boarding pass.

Do what Ed suggested about getting your boarding pass.

If not, you will have to go landside to the Lufthansa check in area. That means immigration, customs, walking between terminals.

By the way, how much time do you have between flights?

Frank II:

Land @ 1:15 and depart @ 5:50.

hopefully, that's more than enough time.
