LHR connection on separate tickets.

Hello everyone. I normally "park" in London with family for a bit before taking weekend trips elsewhere, however, this time, I need to proceed to PRG from LHR the same day. I arrive from DTW at 11:10. Departure flight to PRG is at 13:20 (not booked yet). Factors: 1) separate tickets. Delta Air Lines and BA. 2) Same arrival and departure terminal. 3) I WILL have checked bag to claim, thus, I will need to go through immigration. I can normally breeze through as I hold both, U.S. and EU passports.

Of course I realize if the flight is delayed, I will have to buy a whole new ticket. However, my question is, if everything is on time, is it still too much risk? Thank you in advance for any advice!

Too much risk for me, I wouldn’t want to worry about that for 8 hours going over. Spend a day in London first, even if staying out by LHR.

Maybe if you only had a carryon bag, but that's too tight for my comfort!

I see there's another flight at 5.05 pm. Given that the first day's wasted anyway, I would take a chance on that one. But not on the 1.20 flight.

Thanks. I think you are both right. I just didn't have peace about it. I do need to make it to Prague that day. The next flight is not until 17:20. I suppose a long layover is better than missing the flight and paying twice or thrice as much for another ticket. Does anyone know if BA does stand-by for a small fee if space is available on earlier flight? I'm really not familiar with them and couldn't find anything in reference to that on website. Thanks again!

Thanks, Balso. Yes, that's the one I'm looking at too. Wanted an extra evening to relax in Prague, but the risk would take relaxation out of the equation. It's just such dreadfully long layover. But yes, you are all right about it being way too short for 13:20 flight

If you are booking a BA 'Plus' ticket (probable as you are taking checked bags) you can change your flight for free on the day of travel, up to one hour before your scheduled departure time.

That's fantastic! Thank you kindly for your reply. I may just book a late pm flight. If i can make early connection and switch - great. If not, I'll just take a train to the city to meet up with cousins, hang in london until evening and head onto Prague.
