Leicester Square same day tickets

Just curious about the ability to get 3 seats together to the more popular West End shows on a Saturday night in mid September. We are debating whether to keep our schedule completely open and opt to get tickets this way or to lock ourselves into seeing a show on that night with tickets in hand. We’ll only be in London for two days at the end of our trip so that is factoring in. I’m looking at Witness for the Prosecution or Oliver! Thanks for any advice or recommendations based on experiences you have had.

It shouldn’t be an issue, but one never knows. There are frequently Saturday matinees if that might be an option in your schedule.

Go to the TKTS website where you can buy same day tickets online. In the run up to your trip check out which shows are likely to be available and see if anything there takes your fancy. Tickets are released at midnight and then there are often later releases mid morning, UK time obviously.

Saturday night is the second fastest selling time slot after Saturday matinee so it’s unlikely any really hot tickets will be available, but there are some long running shows that might be. Oliver is a new production so I think if you want to see that you are better off buying in advance. I don’t about Witness.

Thank you both for your replies. That’s good intel Helen, I will check into that option. I am kind of leaning toward seeing Witness so maybe we will get lucky and have the opportunity for nice seats.

Start monitoring the TKTS website to see what the availability looks like on Saturdays.

I’d also check the theatre box office websites as you approach the date of your visit. If there are few seats left, you probably just want to go ahead and pay full price.

I never go to the TKTS booth anymore now that they have the website. Tickets for the days performance for some shows start showing up just after midnight. Check again in the morning.

FWIW, you may be able to find seats although not necessarily together. I’ve found there is much better availability on weekdays than on weekends. I got discounted seats for Witness for the Prosecution on a weeknight a couple of years ago and recall there were random single seats in various places in the theatre. I saw Oliver last year and paid full price in advance; the theatre was full but I suspect that some of those seats were purchased at a discount. Oliver was an excellent show. I also enjoyed Witness for the Prosecution and part of that was due to the unique venue.

We go to the desired show’s ticket office the morning of the performance and have enjoyed great success in having the salesperson search for seats. This tactic allows for dialogue about seat preferences, avoids fees and has “discovered” seats not shown as being available on websites. We are at the box office first thing in the morning and only dealt with short, less than 10 minutes, wait time.

I think checking the website rather than going to the theater might work best for us this trip as we won’t be getting into London until probably before lunch. I saw we could see Chris Pine starring in Ivanov, too, on its closing night. I don’t know that Chechov play, other than it is a pretty heavy tragedy. Not sure if that is what we’re looking for; it’ll be interesting to see the reviews.

Please note that there are fewer than 400 seats in County Hall, and only 230 of them are downstairs. I saw it back in December and was lucky to score a single front row seat by purchasing directly from the theater box office a couple of weeks in advance. From where I sat, the upstairs gallery seats looked quite far away, and that is where you would most likely find any last-minute tix. Keep in mind that this is still a very popular show - so do yourself a favor and book seats as soon as you can commit to a date - it's a great show and worth paying full freight. Skimp on dinner to cover the additional expense - there are many cheap eateries in and around Waterloo Station, which is nearby..

If its a particular show you want, get them in advance from the theatre website. If you just want to see a show, and are willing to be surprised, TKTS is awesome. But they rarely have tickets to the hottest shows.

All of the replies offer great insight, thank you. I will probably go ahead and buy before we leave, especially if we settle on Witness and since we know that one Saturday night will be when we go. Appreciate everyone responding!
