Leg room on British Rail

Our group is traveling from Paddington to Bath on GWR. I am 6'4" and 300lbs; any problem traveling standard class or should I be planning First Class? the rest of the party are "normal" size.
Thanks.

I think you will do fine. I would avoid the types of seats where there are a group of four seats with two on each side facing each other. I find these are more problematic for securing personal space and less leg room in the end.

It probably is worth it for comfort, and most off peak trains have advance 1st class fares, so not as expensive as you might think. All Railcards also.work on 1st class fares, so with a railcard it only costs £16 to upgrade, and you get free food and drinks plus 1st class lounge use.

Your train will be a Class 800 Inter City Express. I am 6ft and found that in standard class, a bracket under the seat was in the way of my foot when in the seat nearest the window. I could move my foot away from the bracket and was OK but something that the designers should have thought about. You can see the trains in this video:> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpp6vAs2W4I

1st Class seats are wider.

The legroom on the 800 series is generally acknowledged as being good whatever people think of the quality of Standard seat itself. At 300 lbs the width might be more the issue for you. First class in 2+1 seating would be more comfortable than 2+2 in standard especially at a crowded time.
