Laundry in UK?

We are going to the UK in May for 3 weeks May 14-June 4). We are planning on packing as lightly as possible, but I'm still wondering about laundry facilities for tops/pants (if necessary). I will probably do undies/socks in the sink, will they even dry overnight or do I need to make sure that we aren't on the last pair before doing wash? As in, do you all wash those every night? We are staying mostly at Hotel Indigo (Stratford Upon Avon, Chester, London), Hampton Inn (Glasgow) and Premier Inn (Edinburgh). Do those offer laundry services? Or how do I go about finding a laundrette (laundromat here in the US)?

Our itinerary is - Arrive Heathrow, bus to Bath>Stratford Upon Avon>Chester>Glasgow>Edinburgh>York>London. Working on what we want to see, and can't wait! We have friends in both Edinburgh and Cambridge (day trip from London) who we are meeting and they will show us around a bit! The most overwhelming is trying to figure out what we want to see in London - it's so big with so much to offer!

Just Google search "Launderette" and the name of the city you are going to and they will come up. You usually do not want to use the hotel services as they generally bill by the item and are quite expensive. Most of the launderettes I went to in England offered drop off the evening before and pick up the next day service at a very reasonable rate.

Take it in small pieces and remember you can see more when you return. Part of successful self-laundry is have the correct fabric. Anything all cotton will be difficult to dry overnight. We always use a blend of synthetic and cotton -- maybe 30% cotton at most -- for good overnight drying. Self service laundry facilities are easily found in the UK. We tend to hand wash underwear and socks every other day, sometimes third day, and everything else a week to ten days at a laundry. We use a small bottle of backpacking soap (REI) for the sink washing, roll everything between bath towels and then hang to dry in an open area. We use the Rick Steves clothes line with a couple extra, big, "S" hooks for attachment. It has worked well for us for over 30 years.

We usually bring lighter fabric clothes, quicker drying, but rarely hand wash anything.

We plan on doing laundry once a week, pack enough underwear and socks for that (they are small and light), then a couple pants, and shirts, with a few extra shirts, and that lasts us easily a week.

We were able to find launderettes easily in just about every town (via Google Maps). Just be aware, that while much of the UK seems to be cashless, smaller launderettes likely have not updated machines, so cash and coins will be needed.

While we do often stay in apartments that have a washer, they rarely ever have a drier, so we usually drop into a launderette for the drier.

Also search for “laundry service”— some are in laundrettes, some are not—where you can drop a load of clothes in the morning, and pick them up in the afternoon, washed, dried, and folded. It will cost around 20 euro, but you won’t have to spend the day doing laundry.

Hi, my wife and are are in the middle of our three week trip. We had a hard time finding a laundromat in London. But when we arrived in Liverpool this afternoon we found one a block away from our hotel. We went there right off the train and did a load each before we checked in.
The place is called Prima. We had to download an app that gives you a door code to get in and you have to pay through the app. It was super easy. The washers program the soap and softener so you don't add those.
So maybe you can see if they are in the towns you are visiting. In two hours we got full backpacks with clean clothes.

As already stated, search for launderette in Google maps for the towns you will be visiting. Occasionally you’ll find a B&B that will do your laundry for a fee, or a hotel with machines available for guest use.

We’ve never had an issue finding one. When you find one read all the instructions regarding detergent, when to deposit coins, etc. At some laundromats detergent is included so you won’t need to add any. The last things you want are to have double detergent or adding your money at the wrong time and losing it.

I always keep at least one clean set of clothes(in addition to what I'm wearing) when I sink wash-some items take 3 days to dry. With regard to your other comment about what to see, make a priority list for each of you, compare notes, and make sure everyone gets to see their top 2 or 3.

If you are staying more than a few nights (3 in my experinece) it makes sense to look for an apartment with a washing machine. Both Booking.com and VRBO.com offers "Washing machine" as a filter criteria.
