Late night tube ride

I will be going to the London Palladium on a Saturday night in September and will be riding on the Tube late at night back to South Kensington. I am a single 74 yr old woman. Will I be safe traveling this way by myself?

Thank you. I am a bit anxious of walking at night by myself also.

Going from the Palladium to the nearest underground (subway) station is a very short walk. The underground has a lot of CCTV cameras, so tends to be safe as criminals etc are kept away. Walking back to your (presumably) hotel at S Kensington should also be OK but I would suggest sticking to well lit streets.

If you are leaving an event there will be other people around I would assume. I always felt safe in those situations. Now 1 AM and the last to leave the pub?

Yes, l’ll be leaving after seeing the closing night of Hello Dolly. I guess the Oxford Circus station is the closest.

Oxford Circus is closest but it’s not far to walk to Piccadilly Circus- the Piccadilly Line from there is direct to S Kensington whereas you have to change if you get on at Oxford Circus. You walk along Regent Street, one of the main shopping streets, so well lit with brightly lit shop windows. I imagine quite a few others from the Palladium will be doing the same thing.

Just be aware that hundreds of people are also using the Tube after the theatres get out.
Last time I was in London, the officials at the Tube stations near the theatres were only letting certain amounts of the crowds into the station at timed intervals to prevent platform overcrowding.
It was almost a mob scene.
Hang on to your valuables!

I like the idea of not changing lines.

Also, thanks, SJ, for the warning.

Honestly, you’ll surprised how many other people will be using the tube back to South Kensington.

Don’t be worried or frightened.

PS: Same age and solo traveler. London is my favorite city on the planet. Walked many a late night after theatre.

Maybe one of my fellow travelers on the RS Best of England trip will be going also.

I regularly return home late at night from various central London venues. With a return to South Ken I would have no worries.
