Land London City, depart Heathrow next evening

Where would you stay? Neighborhood? We land at 7pm into London City (from Santorini) and then depart Heathrow at 6pm next day. So we have a little time to explore. Traveling with husband, 6 and 3 year old. My kids are experienced travelers ;-)

How do you plan on getting to Heathrow the next day? If the tube then somewhere along the Piccadilly line would work.

If you plan on having dinner then it may be advisable to make a reservation for say 9.

Just plan to tube it. Can't decide if it's easier to stay somewhere more central or if there are things to do/see around the London City Airport. I've only done the most popular things in London

I don’t really recall anything of interest right near London city airport. Canary Wharf is nearby but it’s not very interesting. Tower of London is a bit further away. I would probably just find a hotel more centrally located. Kings Cross seems to have some budget oriented hotels if that fits your needs. I hear good things about the premier inns. Piccadilly line will take you to Heathrow from there.

I’m sure others will chime in with other suggestions.

Enjoy your trip!

I'm familiar with the London City/Docklands/Canary Wharf area as we have family there and visit often. Unless you have a special interest in the Thames Barrier/Park (not within walking distance of Canary Wharf), the Docklands Museum (kids would enjoy) or Canary Wharf, you probably would do best by heading into Central London. However, Canary Wharf has a number of hotels, shops and restaurants. The Excel/Docklands area has hotels and restaurants, but a much smaller number than Canary Wharf. Regular DLR to Jubilee to Piccadilly to LHR from the Docklands takes about ninety minutes. Canary Wharf is a bit over an hour on the Elizabeth Line which just opened a couple of weeks ago. If you want to stay in either area just go to Booking.com.
Have fun whatever you decide!

My suggestion would be to head towards the center of town.

Two places that might be of interest to your kids are either the Science museum or the Natural History museum. They are next to each other. Both a short walk from the South Kensington tube station which is on the Piccadilly line to Heathrow. (The Piccadilly line didn't stop at that station while refurbishment was going on but it's now open again.)

Lots of hotels and restaurants in the area.

I think that Frank II meant that South Kensington is now open again.

I did exactly that trajectory a few years ago, flying into London City from Venice one day; out of Heathrow to Canada the next. We stayed central, where we usually do, in the Bloomsbury area. This allows you to see West End, Soho, British Museum or whatever interests you in that part of town. Then easy Piccadilly line from Russell Square to Heathrow the next day.

There is nothing to see around London City Airport, especially after work hours.
