Lakes District Hiking in September

I would love to hear recommendations for walks/hikes in the Lakes District. Preferably routes that are transit-accessible from Ambleside, either circular routes or between bus stops. Ideally 4-6 hours, bonus points if there's somewhere to stop for lunch (either midway through or at the end).
Open to shorter routes that can be combined with sightseeing/attractions.

If you do a google search on Ambleside Walking routes, there are lots of websites offering suggestioins for walks starting from Ambleside. Some suggestions are

Unfortinately most of them don't provide a decent map to follow, but they wilol give an idea of what sort of walks are available. The best walk for walkers are the OS Explorer maps. For the Ambleside area you would need that for the south eastern Lakes. You can plan out and design your own routes using this.

The Tourist Information Centre in Ambleside will be able to provide maps and details of walks and is worth visiting when you arrive.

Going down the Great Langdale Valley or to Coniston will give you many of the Classic walks.
Great Langdale has the #516 bus- hourly from 6.20am, last one back 2010 , but 2230 Friday and Saturday.
Eating places include the ODG (the Old Dungeon Ghyll), the Britannia Inn at Elterwater and the Co-op at Chapel Stile.
Another inter valley route is the Cumbria Way from the ODG to Rosthwaite in Borrowdale- #77 and 78 to Keswick for the 555. About 4 hours from memory.
Coniston also has the hourly #505- first at 0623, last back at 2023.
Coniston also has the Ruskin Museum and Brantwood, as well as the Lake launches.
If you get off the bus at Hawkshead you could also visit Grizedale including the Sculpture Trails and the new Observatory/Planetarium.
Coniston and Hawkshead both have oodles of places to eat.
Hawkshead also has the Old Grammar School where Wordsworth was educated.
