Lake District - Sporting Goods

I was wondering two things.

1) Since the Lake District is known for hiking on the fells can I presume there are a number of sporting goods stores in the area, specifically the Keswick or Cockermouth areas?
2) Long shot, but as we're there end of August would this be a prime time for end of season sales, or any sales at all.

Specific questions, thanx to whomever might know.

There's a place in Keswick called George Fisher, which seemed to be an REI-like store.

Keswick is awash with outdoor stores - go to Keswick on google maps - search for outdoor stores and you'll see lots of results.

Cotswold Outdoor is probably the UK equivalent of REI.

Besides being an outdoor store, George Fisher also has a cafe on their top floor. I recommend it.

Keswick has more outdoor stores than you can shake a stick at. They open and then go out of business faster than you can say Peter Rabbit. From the town square you can stand in one place and see at least 6. I always end up at George Fischer...it's been there since the 1800s and they have excellent quality everything. Have tea up in the rafters at Abrahams with a view of the fells out of the skylight.
The outdoor stores in Keswick have constant sales because of the fierce competition.
