King's College Chapel Cambridge

Hi all,

Planning a day trip to Cambridge in a few weeks while on an extended trip to London. Currently, the day that fits best happens to be Good Friday.

We were hoping to visit the chapel while there, but touring is closed of course.

Few questions:
Is the chapel alone worth trying to reconfigure the itinerary?

If we stick with the same day, we are open to attending a service. It appears the Kings College Choir is singing at the midday service whereas the Choral Scholars are singing Evensong. Is one better than the other? We are already planning on experiencing Evensong at St. Paul's.

Their website indicates that no photos are allowed when a service is on, but that visitor photography rules apply after the organ voluntary has concluded. Has anyone here stayed afterwards for a few photos of the Chapel, ceiling etc?

Thank you!

I assume you have found this website?

Checking on the services for Good Friday, there is a 10.30 Ante-communion and Veneration of the cross service (which will be a special Easter service) or choral evensong at 5.30. There is also a concert at 7.30.

They recommend booking on line as places are subject to availability.

Photography is strictly forbidden during the service, but I can't find any reference to it not applying after the organ voluntary has concluded.

I would assume if the chapel is just open for services that day, worshippers will be expected to leave straight away after the service so taking of pictures may be difficult.

You could always try using the contact form on the website to ask for information.

I would try to go if you can. We took a tour so we didn't hear the choir but the church itself is amazing! Very historical and the wood work and vaulting is gorgeous.

Wasleys,
I found a document talking about the restrictions for photography and in that it mentions that after the voluntary has concluded, visitor rules apply.

It looks like it's closed for touring the first week of our trip so the only real option is to visit during a service. We were really hoping to get a few photos, but we're thinking we'll go to the midday service to at least see the chapel and experience the choir.

The experience of actually being in the chapel with organ and choir is amazing.

I think you are advertising rafcansakil as getting help to write your essay has nothing to do with the thread. This isn't allowed here.

I've been watching that post since it was posted, convinced that there was guideline violation to come. Good catch, wasleys
