So glad I finally saw it a couple years ago. Incredible botanical life in an equally amazing Victorian conservatory. It is my fondest memory of Kew Gardens.
If you are in London—make a special trip to Kew Gardens to see it while you still can.
I love the Palm House but like many locals around the world we don't get into it very often even though we turn over a fair amount of cash every year in membership.
As soon as the weather cools we will make several pilgrimages to see our favourite trees and shrubs before they are relocated.
Not only changing the heating system completely they are replacing every single pane of glass and preserving and repainting all the tons of wrought iron in the incredible building.
I'd advise anybody not familiar with Royal Botanic Gardens Kew to give a little study and see if you'd like it too.
So many of the plants in the Palm House enter in many ways into our daily life and it is great to see where so many things come from, and the information boards next to the plants paint a vivid picture. I love it.
Great place to retreat to in the cold of winter but it takes ages for my glasses to de-fog. They fog up instantly on entry...
Thanks for posting this! We first visited Kew Gardens 51 years ago and have returned as often as possible. We will be in London for a few days next year and now I know we will visit Kew again. At our age a 5 year wait is very risky!
We visited in March 2025, and large pots on display in the Palm House were labeled as specimens propagated for the new structure. Like Nigel, we are loyal members who feel strongly about supporting their endeavors.

Thanks for posting that link, Nancy. I enjoyed reading it.
The BBC now has a short video about the work planned on the Palm House.
