Kew Gardens at Christmas

Hi all!

I am planning 8-9 nights in London for Christmas 2025. What do you think about visiting Kew Gardens during the day this time of year? I understand "Christmas at Kew" would be outstanding, however as I plan my time around obligations we have during Christmas Week, I don't think we have a free night.

Also, I read about the 3 kilometer trail for Christmas at Kew. Does a visit during the day time also include a trail walk? Or is Kew Gardens a place to simply roam about?

Thanks for your opinions! I appreciate it.

Thanks Claudia! Yes, I found that and went through it. That is how I knew there was a 3 K trail for Christmas at Kew and that it was open day and night. I'm looking for opinions to my question is "What do you think about visiting Kew Gardens during the day this time of year?"

Looks like it could be a great Christmastime treat! I hope we can include this on our visit this year, although I also wonder if the nighttime visit is truly special. Thank you for starting this post, CaliMom! So, daytime tickets don’t include a nighttime entry, and the Website on the link (thank you, Claudia!) says that day-visitors must leave by 3:15pm, then may re-enter with a separate, discounted ticket for the Christmas at Kew at their reserved time, at least 65 minutes later.

I figured it would be dark pretty early by that time of year, but now I see that that’s part of the whole plan for the nightly Christmas portion.

I can’t imagine that it would be all that great during the day. Not sure I would bother. It is an absolute shame not to go to the night version of Christmas at Kew. If you can’t rearrange your schedule, then put it high on the list for the next trip.

If I remember correctly, during the xmas lights in the evening all the glasshouses are closed. Therefore the advantage of a visit in the daytime is that while you miss out on the lights, you do get the nice experience of coming in from the cold to the glasshouses (the temperate house, the palm house, and the Princess of Wales conservatory). To me, that would still be worth doing if you want to experience Kew but can't attend the light show in the evening.

I’ve done it with friends. Nice lunch and slow ambles. Was in November which is considered off peak. Crowds were bearable. Went mid week. Obviously not a great deal in bloom but I enjoyed myself. Lots to see, even climbed the wrought iron stair cases in the Arboretum.
