Keswick to Buxton bus/train travel on a Sunday or Monday in Aug

There is an hourly bus from Keswick to Penrith from 8am onwards and the first train from Penrith to Manchester is at 11am. And then a good service thereafter.

But the big issue is engineering work. It is too soon yet to know about that, but you could end up on a rail replacement bus Penrith to Preston straight down the M6, or Preston to Manchester or Manchester to Buxton.
If really unlucky on more than one of those sectors.

There are always work round solutions if that happens, but if at all possible Monday travel is preferable. If not it will need to be reviewed closer to the time for engineering work. That could be as close as 14 days or even less beforehand.

Whatever happens you could make the journey, if you have an open mind to solutions.

I'm at home on my laptop now, not travelling.

Avanti are expecting timetable release for
Sunday 4 August on 12 June; 11 August on 19 June; 19 August on 26 June; and 26 August (Bank Holiday weekend)- no date yet known.

I will believe the first 3 dates when I see them!!

Thanks so much for your replies!! They are very helpful. Right now we are leaning toward Sunday travel, and we hope that the trains will be running that day but I guess we will find out a bit before the journey.

If you let us know which Sunday than I can be pro-active in firming this up.

PS- are you planning on the Airport bus to Buxton, or the train from Piccadilly to Buxton?

It is Aug 11 that we think we will travel by bus and train from Keswick to Buxton, unless we go on the 12th. That would be great to hear what might be going on with the trains that day!
