I need to get to Penrith for the 849am train to Manchester Airport, from Keswick. Based on the current bus schedule in the area (thanks to isn31c), it appears the earliest X4 bus won’t get me to Penrith train station in time. Are there any reliable taxi services where I can pre-book for an early pick up to get to Penrith? Thanks.
If you're starting from the centre of Keswick the X4 and X5 will both take you to Penrith.
X5's leave for Penrith at 6am, 6.50am, 7.20am and 7.50 am.
Although the 7.50 gets you to Penrith Station at 8.34 I would rather be on the 7.20 just in case of anything at all happening (like an RTA). The only reason you would need the X4 is if you were staying at the Pheasant Inn or back of the lake on the A591 beyond Crosthwaite Roundabout.
If I was at the Pheasant I would just walk down to the bus stop opposite Spar (High Hill) and catch the X5 there, aiming to be there 10 minutes before the above bus station times.
To answer your question THE taxi company to use in Keswick is Davies Taxis 017687 72676. I wouldn't even contemplate anyone else. Davies' have been the town's taxi company since Adam was a lad.
Thanks Stuart. For whatever reason Google Maps doesn’t recognize the X4 or X5 to Penrith before 850am. Thanks for the advice.
I suspect that you are looking at Google maps times on a Sunday when the first bus is the 0715 off Workington, 0800 Keswick, but I know you are not travelling on a Sunday as the first airport train on a Sunday leaves Penrith at 11am.
I've never been on the 6am bus from Keswick (5.05 from Workington), but am fairly frequently on the 6.50am bus, which is a 4.30 am start for me in West Cumbria. In the past that was connecting for Kendal at Keswick then connecting for Kirkby Lonsdale at Kendal, currently it is for East Cumbria or Ullswater connecting at Penrith Railway Station.
We now thankfully have a far better connection from the west which I am trialling- gives me another hour in bed, but is a tight connection at 8.45 at Penrith into a once a day bus heading East.
