Kensington Palace in the morning…need help with afternoon

This is our second trip to London. On our past trip we visited Hampton Court, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower of London, the Crown Jewels, Windsor Castle and the V&A Museum. I am now planning our April trip. We have tickets for Kensington Palace for 10 am (first entry) and I am looking for somewhere to go in the afternoon. We are considering the Queen’s Gallery and the Royal Mews for the afternoon. Is this plan reasonable? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Just throwing this out there, but the Imperial War Museum? Churchill War Rooms?

Everyone's different, but you might be a little wiped out in the afternoon, so maybe not visit a must-see site until the next day when you're rested. We're not all as sturdy and tough as the Aussies.

Then again staying outside in the fresh air is rightfully advised, so ignore me just like my wife does.

You can get the Royal News online. I think King Charles III has matured and grown into his role as monarch, and with Prince William next in line, I'm hopeful the Royal Family will be stable for awhile.

When you travel and spend half the day in a palace, how do you want to spend the other half the day? At a museum? An outdoor market? At a bookstore? Walking along the Thames esplanade?

The Design Museum and the Leighton House are 0.9 and 1.0 miles west of Kensington Palace, respectively. I liked both of them.

Holland Park is just north of the Design Museum if you'd rather be outdoors. You can wander through the park northward to the Holland Park Underground station.

I'd say the Queen's Gallery and the Royal Mews would be good that afternoon...IF the exhibition at the Queen's Gallery is of interest to you. Starting in April the exhibition will have a theme of Dressing in the Georgian Era.

https://www.rct.uk/collection/themes/exhibitions/style-society-dressing-the-georgians/the-queens-gallery-buckingham

"This exciting exhibition from the Royal Collection explores what the Georgians wore. From the practical dress of laundry maids to the glittering gowns worn at court.

Discover what fashion can tell us about life in the 18th century. A revolutionary period of trade, travel and technology which fuelled fashion trends across all levels of society. Delve into the Georgians’ style story and get up close to magnificent paintings, prints and drawings by artists including Gainsborough, Zoffany and Hogarth, as well as luxurious textiles, sparkling jewellery, and a range of accessories from snuff boxes to swords."

This sounds excellent to me but it may not appeal to everyone! There is generally very little to see in the Queen's Gallery other than the main exhibition.

If that does not appeal, you could maybe consider Apsley House which is at the far end of Hyde Park from Kensington Palace. It was the residence of the Duke of Wellington who was one of the commanders at Waterloo.

A bit further east from Apsley House is the Wallace Collection which is free and quite interesting.

Otherwise the Churchill War Rooms as mentioned above are near Buckingham Palace.

You could also consider a London Walk?

Pam,
Thanks for the Queens Gallery link!
I'll be in London for a few days in August and that looks great.

@Liz, TBH, I'd forgotten to look and see what was on there. I was thrilled when I saw the topic as I'm going in April and now I've slotted this in to one of my days!

All great suggestions above.
The Queen’s Gallery and the Royal Mews for the afternoon--yes, definitely reasonable, to answer the question you asked.
Perhaps after that, the British Museum would be a welcome respite from seeing palaces.

Why not just walk over to Holland Park. You've seen a lot of the highlights. And, you're already in the neighborhood.

Depending on the time of the year, I would take the boat from Westminster Pier to Kew Gardens. If you haven't been to the British Museum, you should do that while you're in London, but give it a full day.
