Kensington Palace & Gardens

We are a party of six traveling to London in June 2017.

Mom and I would like to visit Kensington Palace, primarily to see the Diana exhibition and we are also hoping the Victoria Revealed exhibition will be reopened by then. The say it reopens in June but are not specific about the date.

The rest of our group is not so interested in the Palace but they would like to see the Gardens. It looks like Kensington Gardens are free to the public, but would that also include the Sunken Garden that is currently planted with white flowers in honor of Diana?

We don't want to purchase tickets for the folks that just want to visit the Gardens unless we have to. I've looked for this information online and cannot seem to determine whether the admission ticket includes private gardens that are off-limits without a ticket.

Thanks to anyone who can shed light!

I heard that the garden with flowers honoring Diana is closed to the public.

I do not have a definitive answer, but all the articles I could find online about the White Garden (People Magazine, London newspapers such as the Telegraph, etc) say the White Garden is "free and open to the public." However, one source says the garden can be viewed "from the public walkways" and I don't know if that means the walkways outside the fence, or inside. When we were they last June 1 we could not enter the Sunken Gardens as the gate was not open.

Either way, a ticket to the palace and special exhibitions is not needed to see the White Garden, whether from inside the fence or outside. Do be aware that the Orangery and White Garden areas are closed for private events on some dates in June. Most are after 4 pm but there are a few days when they are closed all day. Here is the list:

The garden in question has always been closed in regards to actually walking within it, but is very viewable from the walkway around it, and is free to visit.

If you want to add another nice touch to your visit to Kensington Palace, have lunch or, at the very least, tea in the Orangery. It's a beautiful place!

Just came back from London and went to the Diana exhibit and yes, to see just the white sunken garden in her memory and the Orangery are free.

What a wonderful time you'll have!
I think that the original poster has already checked this out, but for anyone else interested in Kensington Palace, the Historic Royal Palaces website is a great place to start. They also manage the Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace, and more. http://www.hrp.org.uk

I used Lola's link and was surprised to see tour tickets are sold out all the way through the month of May. Better act fast for June.

Does anyone know about buying tickets at 365ticketUSA or visitbritain? They still have tickets for sale for sold out dates at kensington, you receive a voucher of sorts. I was wondering if this works just as well?

I bought my tickets online from the Kensington Palace website. Really easy.
They sent a confirmation email which I printed out, but they also sent me tickets via mail.
I was there at the beginning of March. Special entrance for pre-booked tickets. Still waited about 30 minutes to get to the entrance. Then you walked to another area where you wait again.
The Dresses are in three small rooms. So they limit how many people are allowed in at one time.
I felt that it was worth it. My total time of wait was about 50 minutes.

I went in the late afternoon.

The Victoria area was closed and they weren't sure of the re-opening. Check the palace website.
Have fun in London!

The Sunken Gatdens have never been opened to the public (inside the fence), you are able to see the beautiful gardens from outside the fence.
