My wife and I will be in London for 6 days in May.
She’s a big Jane Austen fan and I’d like to take her on a tour.
Are there any recommendations for Jane Austen centered day trips and tours? Don’t have a car so would need to go the tour route...
Thanks
Persuasion and Northanger Abby are largely set in Bath and Jane Austin lived there for a while and began writing while there. There are a number of Jane Austin things to do there. https://visitbath.co.uk/things-to-do/jane-austens-bath
So you could take a day trip by train to Bath and immerse yourselve in things Jane Austin.
Bath was the first thing that came to mind for me, too. But, I am sure you can google Jane Austen tours that stop at various locales, as well. Jane apparently did not like Bath, but I did.
She's buried in Winchester Cathedral. Winchester's only about an hour train ride from London Waterloo station, so it's easy to get to if a tour doesn't go there.
When you Google her, Austenonly is one of the many information sources you will find.
My daughter and I are huge Jane Austen fans. We took this tour several years ago and I can still say that it is the best private tour that we‘ve ever taken. Phil Howe is wonderful! My husband even liked it and he cares nothing about Austen. You‘d need to take the train to Basingstoke. He‘ll meet you at the station in his comfortable vehicle. http://hiddenbritaintours.co.uk/pages/ja.html I cannot recommend it highly enough.
There are two obvious places to go:
Bath, full of Regency houses where two of her books were set.
Winchester and the small village of Chawton in Hampshire, to see her home/museum and her grave.
It would be tricky to combine the two in one day. Bath is easy to organise yourself - a simple train ride from London puts you right in the centre of things.
For the Hampshire sites, you might need a tour.
