We'll be on the Isle of Wight, preferably in Cowes, for a few days in May. Does anyone have any specific recommendations for hotels, restaurants, and/or experiences to share? I've got the website, book and travel mag stuff; I'm looking for someone with personal experiences they'd like to share.

When I was on the Isle of Wight this summer I didn't stay in Cowes but I'll just mention a couple of things.
Assuming that you are arriving without a car you should be aware of the big triangle of water separating East Cowes from West Cowes. There is a fun chain ferry between the two.
The two different Red ferries from Southampton arrive at the different Cowes. The car ferry, Red Funnel, arrives at East Cowes while the passenger only one, Red Jet, arrives at West Cowes.
The Waitrose supermarket is in East Cowes as is Osborne House, the home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, later only Queen Victoria and now English Heritage.
