Is Stroud the Ctswold's best kept secret?

Well it is according to Conde Nast Traveller on May 19th! It rarely gets a mention when posters are asking about bases to stay in the Cotswolds. Perhaps it ought to be added to the list of places to stay or the Western Cotswolds?

Possibly because of its location not being near the popular destination villages. If you’re only taking a day trip or tour to the popular destinations, it would be difficult to visit on the same day. A rental car and a longer day would make it easier.

A lot of people really don’t like Stroud, finding it to be a bit scruffy and down at heel. The area around Stroud is an extremely desirable place to live with good connections to London and Bristol, but Stroud itself not so much.

It’s on the main line from London Paddington it’s no more difficult to visit than Bath.
