Is 3 hours enough for LHR connection?

Flying in from Austin to Barcelona via LHR in April and I have 3 hour 5 minute layover. From my understanding, I have to go through security (customs too?) again in LHR before boarding the plane to Barcelona. Does the connection seem ok, I do not know what terminals I am flying in/out of.

I mean, I would not purchase tickets separately and both flights are American (operated by British Airways).

If you are booking on one ticket with one confirmation number, than yes that is considered enough time. British Airways would not allow the booking otherwise. However, I would watch yourself for if they change the time of one of your flights and not the other. A few years ago BA did that to us and I had to contact them as we then did not have enough time.

You will most likely change terminals. I do think that 3 hours is enough to do that and get through security again.

You’ll go thru security, where your person and any bags you are carrying will be scanned. No customs. If you checked your main suitcase(s) on a single booking that includes both flights then the airline will forward that luggage onto the next plane. You won’t have to go and claim your luggage and then recheck it. If you’re doing carry-on only, of course, your luggage will be with you the whole time. Either way, three hours will be plenty of time.

If your connection at LHR is all at the same terminal, you won’t have to take the extra time to transfer between terminals. Even if you do have to switch terminals, 3 hours won’t be a problem. Heathrow usually waits until the last possible moment, though, to display at what gate your plane will depart. So get to the departures hall for your departure terminal as quickly as you can, once you’ve cleared security, and check the departures screen frequently, to see what your gate will be. Once they show the gate, you may have to make a dash to get there in time. Heathrow is often a hurry up, then wait, then really hurry up experience.
