trip report UK

We were in the UK for two weeks (July 2019) to visit my sister who lives in the Cotswolds. We spent the first week there doing day trips and then drove north to see Hadrian's Wall. During the first week we visited Sulgrave Manor which is the ancestral home of the Washington family. The manor is in Northhamptonshire. It was very touching to be there and see the American flag flying on one side and the Union Jack on the other. The court of arms over the door is very simple-stars and bars-thought to be the inspiration for the American flag. I think history buffs would enjoy the house. On our way north we stopped at Ironbridge-the home of the industrial revolution. The town is charming and there are so many museums you would have to stay a week to see them all. it was really worth the drive to the North to see Hadrian's Wall-the museums and the archeological sites are top notch. On our previous trips we spent more time I'm London but opted this trip to be out in the country and I think this was one of our best trips. The only thing that wasn't as interesting was the Fountains Abbey which is up in the north near Ripon. The ruined Abbey was spectacular but the gardens were just greenery-no flowers and in comparison with other gardens in England just not that great.

Sounds like a wonderful trip! You might want to post it in the Trip Reports section, if you haven't already.
