After time in England, we'd like to fly from London to Zurich to see friends, before flying to the US from Zurich. Please can you recommend some reliable, yet less expensive companies? Your experiences? Thank you!

Easyjet, British Airways and Swiss fly nonstop between London and Zurich.
Make sure you note which airport you will fly out of. London has five. (Six if you include Southend.)
Easyjet will probably be the cheapest.

Easyjet will be the cheapest, but pay attention to the fare options and purchase
the one that meets your requirements. If you need to check bags, some fares
include 1-2 bags at a better rate than purchasing a la carte.
If you are willing to connect, there will be more options than Swiss or BA.
Depending on where your friends actually live, Basel, St Gallen, or Friedsrichhafen
are other options.
Google Flights may be able to help narrow down options.

If you are OK with prices then flying from London City (LCY) is by far the most user friendly route. Small efficient airport just to the east of Central London. Both BA and Swiss fly the route.
