Only going to be in London for a weekend, what are the things we should see, things we should do, etc.? We want to get the most out of the weekend! We would be interested in sight seeing, museums, etc. We just wanted a better idea on what things are probably best to do with so little time and restaurants that are good to eat at and aren't just marketing to tourists (local eats).
Oh so little time. Take hop on and off bus for an excellent overview. Then walk as much as poss thru hyde park to buckingham palace for chaging of guard ceremony, then spend acple of hours in museumof your choice as many are free. Have a meal in a pub. See trafalgar sq and st pauls cathedral if u enjoy huge chuches.
If you are in London after mid August the clue is in your name, you must go to a football (soccer) match. The coming season's fixtures are announced tomorrow.
Other advice is difficult as 48 hours isn't long enough for the world's greatest city.
Could always make a trip to Cambridge and see the greatest university in the country!
I recommend using Rick Steve's London guidebook, even for a short visit. Or start at http://www.ricksteves.com/europe/england/london for a summary of (indoor) sightseeing and links to articles and audio walking tour downloads.
The restaurant reviews in the book will include notes about how touristy vs. local they may feel. I'm also attracted to restaurant listings from the Guardian newspaper.
