In City London Parks

What are your favorite London city parks? Seeking walkable, close-in neighborhood parks, that may be starting to bloom in early early April...thanks....

St. James Park has lots of flowers and is my favorite. Hyde Park has large stretches of grass but some flower beds, especially near the southeast corner. Should be lots of daffodils!

I remember walking through St. James Park in late September one year and there were still lots of flowers. It must be beautiful in spring. And here is a marvelous website that you might want to peruse.

While all of London's Royal Parks are beautiful, Kensington Gardens has many interesting sites (I love the 900-year old Elfin Oak) and the Gardens are conveniently located between Hyde Park and the Notting Hill neighbourhood.

If you find yourself in Hyde Park, try to stop by the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain . I stumbled upon it one time and it was fun to see. It's nicely done and on a sunny spring day it's nice to see kids running around and playing. Given her support for children's causes I think she would be happy with it.

In Kensington Gardens there's a PD Memorial playground that looks nice too.

Shortly after arriving in London last June, we walked past St. James's (not "St. James") Park on our way to other sights, thinking it looked like a nice, pretty park. Well, several tired, jet-lagged hours later, we found ourselves caught up in the madding crowds near the Westminster Tube station at rush hour, just wanting to get back to our Victoria-area hotel.

We chose to keep walking, and this time diverted into St. James's Park. It was glorious -- a peaceful, tranquil oasis for our frazzled selves. We ended up spending a couple of hours there, strolling amid the beauty and watching the various birds -- swans, ducks, geese and boobies -- not to mention the locals enjoying an early-evening in the park. We felt immeasurably better after finding this bit of respite from our exhaustion. We were refreshed and invigorated upon finally, almost reluctantly, leaving.

We'd hoped to visit Hyde Park and perhaps Kensington, but didn't have the time on this trip. So St. James's is the only park I can speak of, but I can't recommend it enough. I should think it would be lovely in April, even if not at full bloom yet.

My fav park is Hyde Park, big and peaceful, takes about an hour to walk round the outer perimter at a brisk pace. Plenty of 'things' to find within. Sit in flower ally (offical name i can't remember) and let the squirrels come and sit on your knee asking for food. I'm including Kensington Gardens with HP, its essentially two ends of the same space.

My least fav is Green Park, busy with very few finds and only really Daffodils for flowers at the appropriate time.

Primrose Hill for a steep climb and a wonderful view of London day or night.

Greenwich Park, same reasons as above plus it's where time is made! Straddle the globe on the Prime Meridian.

St. James's Park is lovely, early morning before the crowds arrive. Say hi to the many birds incl. huge Pelicans.

Holland Park, hilly with lots of foresty bits, very natural in places. Not a fav of mine but worth a visit to the lovely Kyoto Garden with a waterfall, peacocks free roaming and huge Koi Carp.

Battersea Park, some large fountains and a massive Budda 'pagoda' thing, right on the Thames.

Regents Park, large with some immaculate flower gardens. Contains London Zoo; you can see many of the animals from outside the zoo, plus a boating lake and a drinking fountain on the main path with an unexpected secret way to turn the water on.

Enjoy, April is my fav time of year.

Holland Park has a beautiful rose garden that may be starting to bloom by April...there are also many paths going to all the different corners, nooks, and crannies that this park has. It's one of my favorites to wander! The Holland Park neighborhood is beautiful as well.
