How to write a US phone number on a B&B application to stay in England.

I'm going to England in Oct., and have become very frustrated when trying to put my US phone number on online application for B&Bs. I keep getting the message that what I put in is invalid. I looked up how to write US phone numbers for Europe in Rick Steve's book, but that' s not accepted at least the way I'm doing it. Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Marilyn

Is a phone number required? I usually just email the B&B and then call them if I have to.

If I was calling it, I would use 00 1 XXX XXX XXXX.

It might want you to use the international format: +1 XXX XXX XXXX

Or no spaces (more likely).

Or it might only accept local format numbers ... A number of USA sites do. In which case put in anything beginning with 0. It is unlikely they will call you.

I've always entered my phone number (area code plus the 7 digits) with no spaces and have never had a problem.

That advice should work. FYI, 00 is the code that Europeans dial to get an international line and 1 is the country code for USA & Canada.
