We are planning a Cotswold way vacation. After reading about it - we would like to start in Chipping Camden. Now, how do we get to CC from either Heathrow airport or Gatwick? By the Way, the book recommendations on this topic were right on track. I could only find a 2007 edition though of the national trail companion with lodging listings. It will work though.
You could take the train to Moreton in Marsh. From LHR you would need to get to Paddington, either by Heathrow Express or Tube, then catch a train to Moreton in Marsh. Here is link to [National Rail ][1]site. Once getting to Moreton in Marsh, you could take a taxi to Chipping Camden. It is possible to walk to Chipping Camden from Moreton in Marsh. However, you would have to deal with luggage transfer. Of which, I assume you will arrangement for the walk you are planning.
If you are going to Paddington, the Heathrow Express is quick and easy. Buy you tickets 90+ days in advance for the best price---as low as £5.50 on weekends and holidays.

Thank you. This trip is a work in progress. We are doing a 10 + day trip of the Cotswolds and probably tacking on a day or two in London. If we have to go to Paddington, perhaps it would be best to add London to the beginning of our trip. We will end in Bath - then fly back home.
If you are arriving in Moreton on Marsh by train you may want to look into booking your transport ahead of time. We stayed there this summer ( and loved it) but when we arrived at the train station decided to stroll through Moreton on Marsh first. By doing so, we missed the bus, and when we wandered back to the station there were no taxis. In asking in the town that was where we were told we might find one. We tried calling 3 different companied with no success. One did come about 30 minutes later.
Bus service is sporadic in the area, and I believe non-existent on Sundays. We booked the same taxi to come get us on Sunday.
I don't mean to sound negative, Chipping Campden was a highlight of our trip, fabulous food and friendly people. In fact the people we rented from were willing to come pick us up, but we didn't want to inconvenience them if we didn't have to.
You could avoid the trip from Heathrow or Gatwick into London by taking the airline, a frequent bus service to Oxford that takes about 90 minutes (from Heathrow, longer from Gatwick). Take the bus all the way to Oxford station and then a train to Moreton. The National Rail website will show you schedules and fares.
Can't help you from Moreton. Best choice there (or from Oxford) would be to rent a car, if that's consistent with your walking plans.
Thank you for your help. I'm taking notes on all of this. I will be hammering this out with my husband.
Keith is right about the Oxford connection, I'd forgotten. The bus from the airports stops at the Gloucester Green bus station, which is a short walk from the railroad station but not one that will appeal to you after an overnight flight and bus ride. Probably better to connect to Reading as he suggests, then train to M-in-M.
There is no need to go into Paddingtin Station in London. Take taxi friom Heathrow to Slough train station (15 minute ride), you can get the train to Motetom-in-Marsh. Once you arrive take taxi (8 miles) to Chipping Campden (12 minute ride), or you could take a bus Johnsons Coaches they run once an hour and it's a 34 minutes trip.
