When we arrive at Heathrow, we are evaluating whether to take a private shuttle (pretty expensive) or the tube. We will have luggage and are evaluating whether the tube is practical for 4 seniors with luggage, and if so how to find the right one and how easy it will be w our luggage. We are older folks so dont want anything too rugged. Our hotel is 100m from the St Pancras station so our consideration is just accessing it at Heathrow and schlepping the luggage. Any advice?
A party of four seniors with luggage just off a long haul flight? Take a taxi. Divided by four it will be a good deal.
There is only one Underground line from Heathrow - the Piccadilly. Goes straight to Kings Cross St Pancras. Ignore the Heathrow Express.
There is step free access at both ends to and from the platforms, but a fair amount of walking will be involved.
What is this shuttle you refer to that is 'pretty expensive'?
The tube starts at Heathrow, so as long as you don't get on the train to Paddington, you can't miss it. Exit at Kings Cross St. Pancras.
If necessary, you can book a car service, prices are based on distance, number of passengers and luggage. Just Airports, Simply Airports, and Blackberry Cars are some that get recommended.
Just get a taxi.
The tube will be far quicker than travelling by road. The Piccadilly line is used to people travelling with large amounts of luggage and is an easy direct line. The line starts at Heathrow, so you will get a seat.

a few more details will give a more customised answer.
Old seniors with walking difficulties or young 60s like me?
Your luggage - steamer trunks or 22"? One each or several?
Which hotel?
Most importantly, about your flight. What day of the week and what time is it scheduled to arrive?
I'd (just me) be on the Piccadilly Line which serves all terminals at Heathrow, and I pull my reasonable sized wheeled bag using the lifts at Kings Cross St Pancras and the level roll on at Heathrow.
Any chance the hotel is the St Pancras Renaissance? If so, it has direct access from the station.
This is what I do.. I realize it won't be popular on here but..
Take Heathrow Express to Paddington. If you buy in advance you can get a good deal on the tickets (I got some 2 for 1 last time and for my next trip I have some 14 day advance weekend purchase price)
From Paddington I get a cab to the hotel.
I am tired and I don't want to deal with the tube :)
Now for four it might be just as cheap to get a cab.
Janet - Check out Just Airports. For 4 Adults and luggage going to St Pancras station is £42.
Joel's right - for four people, a minicab (prebooked car) will be cheaper than train to Paddington plus taxi. A minicab from Heathrow is also supposed to be cheaper than getting a regular black cab at the airport (no personal experience, but I've never read anything to contradict this). If you don't want to take the Tube, book the car.
Note that Just Airports has a substantially lower price for cash compared with credit card. I don't know if the other services do.
I downloaded the App, Tube Map London Underground. It was really helpful. You can search routes to take throughout the tube network. It was a great resource!
A number of people recommend Just Airports. I don't know if they do private transfers or not. I also recommend Blacklane.com. The driver will text you the day before your pick-up. He will also text you an an hour before you are to be picked up. He will meet you and your party, where you pick up your luggage. It will be a prearranged price. There will be no surprises. The driver will just pick up your party and no one else. You can go to the Blacklane.com site and enter your information. They will respond right away. They receive great reviews. They are based in Berlin.
