We are booked at a B&B for a UK trip this July that we have unfortunately had to cancel. I've reached out by email twice (and just sent a third message this morning) to cancel our reservation and have heard nothing back. We need to cancel by 14 days out to avoid a penalty, so I still have plenty of time, but was wondering if anyone had any insight as to whether most places are closed and are not checking emails, or what could be going on. The B&B is Howe Keld in Keswick.
Hospitality is closed by law throughout England as a result of the lockdown.
The earliest that any might open is in July, under current conditions.
I just received confirmed cancellations from small hotels in Liverpool and Bath even though they are closed. Have you considered calling or using snail mail?
When I communicated with How Keld last early spring on a booking for Rick, It did take some time for a reply, as I believe the owners had been away from home. So I’d give it more time, at this point.
I stayed at Howe Keld last May. The owners are wonderful but they may not be there. The husband is from Switzerland and the wife is from another part of the UK. They may be hunkering down away from the B&B.
I wouldn't worry too much.
Thanks, everyone. I guess I'll give it some more time. I'm thinking there shouldn't be any problem cancelling considering the great reputation of this B&B. Maybe they just aren't checking email right now.
