How Long in Oxford?

I arrive at London Gatwick at for 2 days in July, and would like to spend at least one, if not both, in Oxford. Being a history and art lover, should I take both days for Oxford?

Also, any suggestions for a R.S. type hotel recommendation in London, preferably close to a tube station?

You can definitely spend two days in Oxford if you are into art and history. Go to the Asmolean Museum, and also the University Museum, which is a spectacular building even if you aren't interested in natural history, and has the fascinating Pitt Rivers ethnological museum attached to it.

You can spend days in Oxford...there is so much to see especially if you like history and art!
Spend time in the Bodleian Library on a tour and visit the small rotating exhibit room in the main courtyard. It's amazing what you find in there.
My favorite colleges are Lincoln, Christ Church, and Magdalen. All three are beautiful in their own way and contain amazing history.
The Ashmolean Museum houses quite a collection. It's one of those places that has pieces spanning all of western history as well as smatterings of things from other cultures as well.
Eat at The Eagle and Child where Tolkien and Lewis hung out together and compared notes and ideas for their writings.
A couple of other interesting places in the area are Blenheim Palace where Winston Churchill was born and Kelmscott Manor where William Morris lived and worked.
