How do I get Wimbledon tickets?

Hi! I am an avid (recreational) tennis player/fan and really want to see any match at Wimbledon, and want to get on the grounds to soak it all up. We will only have July 3, 2014 open to do this. I've spent time on The Wimbledon site, and it appears "the queue" is my only option. Are any tickets available if I just show up and buy from a scalper? I don't need to see a Centre court match, just something less important is fine. Suggestions? thanks!

Scalper tickets that are sold up and down the road around the club are often fake and you'll lose a wad. You can get tickets on second party websites but by this point they will be outrageously expensive! The date you plan to go is within the last few days of the tournament and these are the hardest tickets to get. You are probably going to be out of luck for a seat. People in the queue literally camp in tents overnight, are awakened by stewards at the crack of dawn and hope that they will get one of only 500 tickets available on that day. If you are at the back of that line you have a much better chance of getting a grounds pass. We've done this and it's still a great experience. We arrived super early in the morning and got lucky! You can still sit on Henman Hill, or whatever they're calling it now (Murray Mount?), and watch on the jumbo tron. There are also open courts around the grounds where they have some of the lesser matches and practice for the players that you can watch. It's still loads of fun and you can get a sense of being there - very festive atmosphere. Pimm's with strawberries & cream will round out your day nicely!

Here is information on tickets you can purchase from the resale kiosk "This year we are celebrating 60 years since the introduction of Ticket Resale. Since its inception in 1954, it has raised £1.75 million for charity.

Subject to availability, returned Show Court tickets can be purchased daily not before 3pm, from the Ticket Resale kiosk north of Court 18 near the top of St Mary’s Walk. Visitors who are unable to visit the Ticket Resale kiosk due to its location should speak to any Honorary Steward.
'
Centre Court tickets are priced at £10, with other Show Court tickets available for £5.

All proceeds are donated to charity via the Wimbledon Foundation.

My friends and I used to buy them when we were at college in Wimbleon and saw some of the greats from 50 years ago for a couple of pounds when Rod Laver and other Australians led the field. You will often some some great double matches late in the day. Good luck in getting something.

By 3 July centre court tickets are sold on 2 July via Ticketmaster, rather than on the turnstiles. They will sell out within minutes if not seconds. Details will be sent out by Wimbledon,. so sign up for their newsletters at http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/contact/register.html

Ground tickets will be available on the turnstiles. As people leave they are resold and people do start to drift away in the early evening, which might be your best chance, weather permitting.
