How can I determine when National and School Term Holidays occur in England?

Hi. We want to take local holidays and school vacations into account in planning our travel days and itineraries. What's a good source/list/calendar for me to investigate this? Our trip will be sometime, still undetermined, in September. Thanks--Ann.

My School Holidays allows searches by area. The only likely time you may find a school on holiday in England is the first week in September.

Marco's website is the most detailed. Note that Scottish schools start their new academic year in mid-August rather than the first few days of September in England and therefore their half term (a week) falls within September. This applies to fewer children that in England.

To complicate things further, some schools are now running four terms a year rather than the traditional three, which means that their half term holidays fall earlier, but again this is fewer children.

The weather for your trip will be better generally the earlier in September you visit.
