My sister and I are looking forward to a Rick Steves Southern England tour in May. We’re considering adding a day before and after the tour and spending a little time in London. Any suggestions on a great hotel that might be walkable from Paddington Station?
I’m going to suggest you consider a hotel near London St Pancras Station on your way to the tour. This will have you in a good position to take the train to Canterbury for the start of the tour.
I took this tour last April (and loved it!!) and stayed at the Premier Inn St Pancras Station. Convenient to the station ( less than 5 minute walk) and across the street from the British Library. You can pop across and enjoy their “treasures” collection.
You will be coming from Bath on your return, either by coach or train. The train will go to Paddington Station and you might Consider the Premier Inn there. These hotels would be about the equivalent of a Hilton Garden Inn in the US.
I stayed at Number 63 on Bayswater Road when I was on the Southern England tour in 2022. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk from Paddington Station, and a continental breakfast is included. Lancaster Gate tube station is a block away, and it’s just across the street from Kensington Garden.
I stayed at Number 63 for a week last summer and have a week booked for this June.
Enjoy the Southern England tour. It was fantastic!!
Happy travels!!
Consider Hotel Indigo London Paddington which is a boutique hotel with a great breakfast only a couple of blocks from Paddington station. The rooms are not large, but we liked the room we reserved with a garden view.
The Delmere on Sussex Gardens is a reasonable choice. A Best Western, if that means anything to you in terms of brand. There are a ton of other hotels on Sussex Gardens.
Been staying at 63 Bayswater for years. Like the ease of transport from Heathrow to Paddington primarily because I book the HEX 2 months before my trip. Suspect the newer Elizabeth Line is cheaper.
Other pluses price, it’s across the road from the Lancaster Gate entrance to Hyde Park and the Italian Gardens. I love strolling to the Lido for coffee and to watch the daily swimmers enjoy themselves before sunrise. Gates open at 5am. Another plus is the Mitre Pub. Lastly, a favorite restaurant, Tudkin, Flavors of Malaysia, is a 10-15 minute saunter. Great fondness for their Ox tail soup.
Hotel Indigo is a very nice, modern upscale hotel just 300 feet from the main entrance to Paddington—-1/2 block after you cross Praed Street. We have stayed there 3 times, and really like it if we want to bbe close to Paddington.
Hotel 63 is a good choice but it is 0.4 miles away, on Bayswater road near Lancaster Gate.
The Hilton is attached to Paddington Station. From the Station you can walk into the Hilton.....never stayed there, just rested in seats provided.
