hotels in south Kensington London

I am looking for hotel recommendations in S Kensington London

You can go to Booking.com or TripAdvisor and look up specific London neighborhoods. Kensington can be an expensive neighborhood. You could also look in Bayswater which is the next tube stop northeast.
I filter Booking.com from lowest price to high price and then look for properties that have substantially higher customer ratings than other like priced properties. I have never been disappointed, especially in ultra expensive hotel markets like Central London.

Three blocks from the Bayswater tube stop is London House Hotel, I am returning there for a week in 2018. Bus stop quite nearby as well, that goes to South Kensington:

We just spent 8 nights at London Lodge Hotel
perfect location, 5 min walk to Earl’s Court Station, about 10 min to Kensington High Street
It was quiet, Very comfortable and clean
I booked well in advance on their website and got a super rate that included continental bkft

I don't know what your budget is, but the Millennium Gloucester Hotel or Bailey's Hotel (also a Millennium hotel) are both great and in a really good location right around the corner from each other. The Bailey Hotel is literally across the street from the Gloucester Road tube station. They often have deals.

We always stay at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt on Cromwell rd. Or Rydges on Gloucester Rd. Both are a block from the Gloucester tube stop.

Excellent, highly recommend:
Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt, 68-86 Cromwell Rd.

Crowne Plaza London-Kensington, 100 Cromwell Rd.

The Kensington, 109-113 Queen's Gate. www.doylecollection.com

Number 16, 16 Sumner Pl. www.firmdalehotels.com

The Rembrandt Hotel, 11 Thurloe Pl. www.sarova-rembrandthotel.com

The hotels above are each 3 to 5 blocks from the South Kensington tube station.

(Cromwell Place is the street to the west of the station, Thurloe St. to the north of the station, Old Brompton Rd. and Pelham St. to its south.)

Crowne Plaza Hotel is halfway between Earl's Court tube station and South Kensington tube station, so you could walk from either station to the hotel.

Rebecca, thank you for mentioning the Rembrandt Hotel! The first time I went to England was many, many years ago with my parents and sister. I loved the Rembrandt .... it was so very British to my untutored mind. I remember being particularly impressed when I saw a C. of E. clergyman in his gaiters having afternoon tea in the lounge. Oh, the silly things we remember. There is a college outside of Montreal called Bishop's College and their football team is called Bishop's Gaiters, which always makes me smile and remember the Rembrandt. Forgive this non sequitor post.

First, Bayswater is nowhere near South Kensington. Kensington is different from South Kensington.

I'm going to suggest the Nadler Kensington. It is one block from the Earl's Court tube station about 8 minutes walk to Gloucester Road. (Only two quick tube stops from South Kensington.)

I have spent over 100 nights at this hotel and can highly recommend it. The staff is great, the location is wonderful and the in room amenities are very good. The rooms tend to be small but very clean. There is no in house restaurant or bar but each room has a small kitchenette and the hotel has agreements with restaurants in the area offering guests a discount.

I will second Nadler Kensington. I've stayed there about half a dozen times.

We are also looking for a hotel in S. Kensington, and would love to find one with a fridge. A microwave would be a bonus, but a fridge and coffee maker would do. We will be there for 5 nights. Would love any suggestions.

The Nadler Kensington has both fridge and microwave.

The aforementioned Nadler! It's more Earl's Court than S Ken, but it's not far and the comfortable (if small) rooms all have mini-kitchens with fridges, coffee machines and I think microwaves.

My thanks to everyone for these terrific hotel suggestions in the vicinity of the S Kensington tube.

We like Bailey's at Gloucester Rd Tube and also the Rembrandt. Both are great locations with restaurants nearby and both have in room refrigerators. The Rembrandt includes a great buffet breakfast. Bailey's has the advantage of Waitrose at the tube station and a laundry a block away.

I do have a question for those who have stayed at the Nadler. We couldn't tell from the website or photos if there is a place for 2 people to sit in the room. Since we would have a fridge and microwave, we would want to be able to eat (and write), and preferably not sit on the bed. We also couldn't tell if there is a lobby with places to sit and write. Thank you in advance.

Some of the rooms have a second place to sit besides the desk chair. At first I thought is was an ottoman but it is actually a chair with a back a couple of inches high. All rooms have a desk but only the larger rooms would be roomy enough for two. And even then it's tight. There is a tray in every room that you could put on your lap so you can balance things.

There are couches and a couple of chairs in the lobby but no desk or place to write. It isn't really a lobby meant for congregating or hanging out in. It's small.

The Nadler concept is not to have things that you may not use--restaurants, bars, fitness centers, etc but have them all available nearby at a discount. If you want a place to sit and write there are pubs and coffee places within a 3 minute walk and the area is safe to walk in at night

Remember, this is a small hotel. Even the largest rooms would be considered small by U.S. standards. Almost all hotels that have been converted from townhouses have small rooms. If you want a more American style hotel, there is a Premier Inn down the street about one minute away. And soon, a 300 room Marriott Residence Inn will open on the other side of the Earls Court Road station on Warwick Road. Large rooms, full kitchens, laundry room, and fitness center.

--->Norma! What a fun memory! Back in the day (decades pre-vegan, lol) the Rembrandt also used to have a wonderful carvery restaurant. We used to go there for our final meal in London.

I have stayed in the Radisson Blu 3 times now as it is frequently used by Road Scholar tours, the last time just last week. The rooms do have small fridges but do not have microwaves. The reception staff is exceptionally nice, the breakfast buffet is nice but way too expensive for me to consider. It is in a great location.

I don't think anyone mentioned that there is also a Citadines South Kensington near the Gloucester Rd tube stop and just around the corner from the Radisson. (Well, Rebecca might have because I know we have discussed it!!)

Pam, excellent suggestion--Citadines South Kensington!
I forgot about it when I was making my list!
I don't know if the Rembrandt still has the carvery restaurant, but they serve a good breakfast. But you're right; pretty expensive for breakfast.

My husband and I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza, on Cromwell, in south Kensington, three times. It is part of the IHG hotel group. You can earn points for future stays at Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, InterContnental, Crowne Plaza, etc. We were very happy with our rooms and service. The location is directly across the street from the Gloucester Tube station. It is within walking distance of Kensington Palace/Gardens. It is close to the museum. It is one stop away from Knightsbridge (Harrod's). South Kensington is a beautiful area to walk around in and very safe. The architecture is gorgeous.
