Hotels in London to Recommend (Late September)

Hello guys, I am looking at rooms at around 120 British Pounds per night, not too far from the city center and not in a too old building. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It might be hard to avoid a "too old building" and I don't even know what you mean by that. We always stay in the Victoria Station area and for the last four trips have used the Best Western Victoria Palace in the annex. ( Belgravia) We like the area for restaurants, pubs, and breakfast.

Take a look at the Premier Inn Victoria, or County Hall or Blackfrairs or Waterloo. All ideally situated and within your budget.

Your budget is very low for London. I would also suggest Premier Inn, but if you need something even more budget, take a look at Travelodge. There are quite a few in London and a quick check showed they have numerous hotels in your budget range.

I've never stayed in one so I can't give you any opinions on their quality.

If you decide to go with Travelodge - they are as economic as anywhere, but basic, although generally clean and secure - avoid Central Aldgate East. We’ve stayed there and had a decent stay, but although it’s brilliantly placed for the Tower etc., it is also slap bang next to the railway, and if your allotted room is on the wrong side of the building (we got lucky, top floor furthest side away from rails) very frequent train noise (and vibration) is unavoidable. Bit of a strange entrance too, down a somewhat gloomy and dingy back alley.

Others however, are good value and centrally placed. A pore through the Trip Advisor reviews on each one is recommended to determine the obvious pros and possibly less obvious cons.

We’ve stayed at two other Travelodges, both ‘south of the river’ at Southwark (good) and Vauxhall (also OK) but the latter is out of the way a bit and not handily situated for much other than cricket (The Oval) and the new USA embassy, which I’ve heard referred to as ‘The Sugar Cube’!

Hello from Wisconsin,
The Premier Inn is a chain of modern, no charm hotels. The people were charming, the building not so. However, after that recommendation let me say they are Clean, Quiet, and Safe, and for London a pretty good price. We stayed at the Premier Inn that is across from the British Library/St. Pancras RR station. It's official name is 'Premier Inn London St. Pancras'. St. Pancras and King's Cross RR stations across the street will let you take the Tube to where you want to go. Meanwhile there are some nice pubs nearby by including Mabel's Tavern, and the Skinner's Arm. Not the Euston Flyer.

We have stayed at other Premier Inns and have been pleased.

We stayed at a few Premier Inn locations this summer and they were all fine. In addition to the London locations already mentioned you might want to consider the Premier Inn Covent Garden. It is about 100 yards from Trafalgar Square (eg. a pretty central location) and you can get to it on the direct Piccadilly line from Heathrow. We stayed there and would stay there again. The rooms are not large but are well designed.

Another vote for Premier Inn County Hall as being centrally located and walkable to many, many sights.

Please note the Hub by Premier Inn may have smaller rooms. From posts on the forum they may not be suitable for larger groups. Singles or perhaps a couple would be fine. Just something to consider. I have no personal experience with Premier Inns.

I have no specific recommendation for you, just a general comment. When looking into bargain-priced rooms in London, be sure to check the square footage. Booking.com generally includes that detail. A few years ago, I was looking for a bargain, but most of the low-priced rooms were absolutely tiny. I remember one was 42 square feet. I discovered that for 2x the price, I could get 5x the room, and I ended up in a large and lovely room, looking down on the London Eye from my window!

Thank you for all the inputs. I just booked The Premier Inn at Paddington. Good price and it's very new!

Well done. I’m presuming its the Premier Inn Paddington Basin. Easy peasy walk from the station. You are also close to the rolling bridge.

If you seek good food try Tudkin Flavors of Malaysia on Craven Road. Pub grub at Victoria Paddington is very good. Sit upstairs or have a pint and sit beneath etched glass downstairs. Look for the patron who rolls in with his dog in a baby buggy.

Enjoy London. Great city.
