Looking to spend a few days in York in September. Any recommendations for a place to stay would be appreciated!
York's rather expensive. I had someone spliting the cost with me, and we were both a bit worried we'd need air conditioning, so I chose the Premier Inn Blossom Street South. (There's another PI very nearby.) I've stayed in several Premier Inns and all have been fine. I have no memory of that specific one. It's not in the historic area, but that's a very reasonable walk away. The PI is quite close to the train station, which is very handy if that's where you're arriving.
We stayed at one of the B&Bs recommended in Rick's book. On the road between the rail station and the center of town.
If you want a view of York Minster from your room, then you might want to stay at the Dean Court Hotel if you aren't on a tight budget.
We stayed three nights at the Minster Hotel back in 2017 and it was great. Reasonably priced, great location (walking distance from North Gate) and parking on the grounds.
Another vote for The Minster Hotel. It's on a quiet street, about a block from the York Museum and walking distance to York Minster. We stayed in the annex behind the main hotel, and it was so quiet there. There's also a drugstore across the street where you can buy sandwiches, crisps and drinks. This may come in handy if you're too tired to go out for dinner after a day of sightseeing.
The Minster Hotel is in the historic district, with cobblestone streets beside it, and ancient buildings all around it.
At the front desk of the hotel they will give you a map of York. You will need that on your walks around town.
Hi -
We stayed at the Minster just a few weeks back. I discovered after booking that it is one of the York Hotels used by Rick Steves. We had a room at street level in the newish (in comparison with the main building) annexe which was well appointed and spacious. If you are driving I recommend a very slow approach and turn into the car park at the rear - you’ll probably find yourself breathing in as you negotiate the alley that leads to the rear!
Handy for everything and a nice pub, the Minister Inn nearby. Turn right out of the hotel’s front door, right again at first street (old walls on left hand side of street) and the pub is a little way down on the right. Have to add though, it’s just one of many excellent York pubs!
York gets very busy so wherever you plan to stay book sooner rather than later! Hope you have a great trip!

If you want to stay somewhere different, the Bar Convent on Blossom Street has rooms.
